Hi everyone, let me just start by saying: wow I am so tired after finding a bed bug 2 nights ago. Thankfully we acted fast and got someone out to confirm identification (he said it looks to be quite a small infestation) and apply Aprehend fungal treatment. HOWEVER- I have some serious questions about their method of application. First of all, I requested the safety data sheet (SDS) from the company and gave it a read through. I work in a similar field which involves pest identification. The sheet said that the product may be fatal if ingested or inhaled. This of course only refers to when it is freshly applied and still wet.
Tell me why this man starts applying before we even have the chance to leave the apartment?? WITHOUT a respirator or even a mask?? He told us it is completely harmless to people, which does not seem to be true given that we had to wait 6 hours to re-enter. Additionally as we were exiting, I saw that he was applying directly to some stuffed animals directly on the bed (we had left them on the bed as they were not machine washable and wanted to ask their advice). Online it says that Aprehend should not be applied directly to mattresses or areas that will come into contact with skin.
All this to say that I don't really mind that additional solution has been applied to the bed and couch because it's more likely to come into contact with the bugs. It just worries me that if he was not following safety protocol for the product, that maybe the application directions were not followed properly either! Someone please tell me I'm over reacting :).
Anyways I will try and update with effectiveness. So far I have seen 3 bed bugs on the bed after laying in it for an hour with the lights on (which is WAY more than we saw previously) I'm scared to go to sleep and get eaten alive guys.
EDIT: (night one)
Oh man, I can't believe there are this many bugs in the room. I kept waking up every hour and checking the bed. Counted 25+ overnight! Supposedly the solution can make them more likely to be seen out and about.
