SSI new application or reinstatement?
Minor was receiving SSI. While in care of his grandparents who are conspiracy theorists and anti-government, they cancelled his SSI in 2020.
He is now 20 years old and wants to move out, but obviously needs the money first.
He has severe speech impediment preventing him from calling SSA. Plus, he has to do this behind their backs because they brainwashed him for years that government is evil. Parents aren’t in the picture.
With the help of APS, his SSN was recovered and Medicaid was reinstated. APS called SSA, but was advised that if it has been over 5 years, SSI cannot be reinstated, needs a brand new application. Is this true?
SSA refused to look him up by the SSN because he wasn’t around to give permission and APS cannot be a representative for SSA anyway, and they are running out of time to help this person out because he is an adult who can make his own decisions but out of fear and disability, he feels stuck.
