Can't tell if I broke a filling or if it's a 'flash'

I have a composite filling on the back side of tooth 10, in between the teeth. I think it's been there a year, maybe 2? It's not on a biting surface so it's never under any pressure.

Since it was placed, my floss has always gotten snagged on it way up in the gumline. I get regular cleanings so the snag isn't from tartar, and I figured it was just a weird edge of the filling and never thought to mention it to my dentist.

Tonight, however, I was flossing and a tiny, tooth-colored rock hard piece came off.. maybe 2mm in size or so.

Afterwards, the floss no longer snags, but I do feel a teeny rough 'edge' behind that tooth. There's no sensitivity or pain to air or temperature.

Likelihood this is a filling 'flash' since it's been snagging since it was placed? My concern is, obviously, that the actual filling is damaged.

I have a scary medical appointment on Monday so I'm really frustrated that something else has potentially come up and I don't have the mental space to deal with it this week.
