David Gordon Smith

David Gordon Smith

I was watching Season 5, Episode 4 and saw the segment on David Gordon Smith. He shot and killed an officer during a robbery, and managed to escape from prison by, you know, walking away from his unguarded outdoor sleeping quarters out on a lake.

He had a life sentence, with possibility of parole, and escaped after being denied early release.

I decided to go to the Oklahoma prison inmate search site and looked him up. He’s still there now, looking like a skinny version of Santa Claus.

I was wondering if any other fans of UM ever do this as well. See a segment, and go look the person up on the state’s inmate search tool to see if they’re still in there.

I did this recently for Jerry Strickland also. As old as he’s gotten, he still looks the same.

I can’t even imagine. Walking into prison in the 70’s or early 80’s, and seeing how much the world has changed in the interim. An entire technological revolution occurred as these folks are blissfully unaware, behind the wall.

If anyone has any good suggestions on inmates to look up, please let me know!

A fellow utilizes unorthodox methods to help him deal with the grief of losing a loved one.

Hints:

  1. This film features many now-famous actors, but doesn’t seem to be well known itself.

  2. I would say it’s a comedy.

Glitch in the System, my former metal band. Late 1999/early 2000. Those green leaf posters from Spencer’s were everywhere back in the day.

Probably the happiest, carefree era of my life. I got that Deicide shirt at their show at The Riverview Theater in Norfolk, VA when they were touring for Serpents of the Light and their live album.

I wore it to school, and a teacher called me out in front of the class because it said “When Satan Lives Tour” on the back, saying it offended her.

I smart mouthed her back and said, “well, no one is forcing you to look at it,” which earned me my first ever referral, ha!

Carol, shot on a country road in Connecticut

I’m currently rewatching the segment about “Carol,” who was shot on a country road one morning in Connecticut in 1988.

Given that Rex Heuermann’s first documented homicide is in 1993 (Karen Vergata) if I correctly recall, I was curious if he’s ever been considered a suspect.

I also personally believe that RH is the Route 29 Killer that murdered Alicia Showalter.

Supposedly his mother had moved to within 5 miles of the general area in the early or mid 90’s, and RH visited regularly. He’s a dead ringer for the composite sketch, however, the Route 29 Killer was described as being about 5’10”.

Given that the thing people seem to remember about RH is his “ogre” like height, I would surmise that would be a thing that stood out if it were RH.
