For ease of the story my name will be Marie (22 F). I was at work, serving customers like usual, and this woman comes up to the counter with her two kids and asks, “Hey would either of you happen to be Marie?” I replied with, “yeah that would be me, why?” she very aggressively responds with, “Oh good, my husband isn’t f***ing interested, okay?”I was shocked, I showed her my engagement ring, told her I am off the table and have no idea who her or her husband is. She left in a fuss and I was taken aback, I know I can be friendly at work, customer service and everything, but I’m NEVER that friendly. My coworker who saw this interaction theorized she must have saw me serving him and was insecure and wanted to confront me about it. We tried to figure out who it could be, if anyone in town knew her, and we never got an answer. The following days I didn’t hear anything from her or her husband and figured that whole situation would be a one off thing. Until, my fiancée got a message from a random woman on instagram, and she told him about the encounter I had with her husband. That I had flirted with her husband intentionally while she wasn’t there and I took that moment to make my move, and she figured she would tell my fiancée about my unfaithful act since I probably didn’t tell him. The ”situation” in question was when her husband came in, we’ll call him Peter, came into the store I was working at, and I said, “Hey Peter, you were in my dream last night, me, a couple friends and my hubby, we’re just chilling watching some movies, and the Bee Movie started playing and you walked in we’re like “hey the Bee Movie, sick.” And we all watched it together. Random right?” He laughed and agreed that it was funny and random. We exchanged a normal goodbye and he left with his friends. I don’t think I was flirtatious or anything, and he didn’t seem uncomfortable with my comment either. Her retelling of the situation to my partner was that I was cuddled up with Peter and it was just the two of us watching a movie intimately. Like it was a real scenario that ACTUALLY happened. Peter is a childhood friend from elementary school, and we say weird things and make jokes all the time, I didn’t think this situation was any different. I also didn’t know Peter was engaged since I’ve seen him with multiple different women over the past year, and he hadn’t told me he was engaged. My fiancée agrees that this was an odd situation, and I reached out to Peter to apologize for the misunderstanding and maybe get some clarification, he got very defensive and didn’t accept my apology asking, “what if the roles were reversed?” and now I’m conflicted on if what I said or did was wrong. So, was this an odd misunderstanding or AITA?
