Locked out of Dafoe Library with a portable charger—am I screwed on late fees?

Hey everyone,

I’m in a bit of a panic right now. I borrowed a portable charger from the Elizabeth Dafoe Library today and completely forgot it was in my backpack. My due time was 4:30 PM, but by the time I realized my mistake and ran back to campus to return it, the building was already locked up for the long holiday weekend.

I know it’s entirely my fault for losing track of time, but I’m really stressed because I'm currently unemployed and absolutely cannot afford a massive, multi-day late fee accumulating over the next three days.

I have the charger safely in my room so nothing happens to it, and I plan on being at the library doors the absolute second they reopen on Tuesday morning to slide it back into the kiosk.

I’ve already emailed the main library inbox (dafoe@umanitoba.ca), as well as CC’d the operations manager and user services lines to explain the situation and ask for a waiver since I literally cannot get into the building to return it.

Has anyone dealt with this at Dafoe before? How strict are they with the automated kiosk tech fees over holiday closures if you proactively emailed them? Any advice on who to talk to in person on Tuesday morning to get this cleared up would be massive.
