Got engaged in April 2026. Both my fiance and I do not come from wealthy backgrounds so it's already established that we will have to find a way to pay for everything. my mother straight up told me "I can help out however I can" which doesn't fill me with much confidence lol

As much as I hide it, I've always dreamt of having a wedding but the cost of everything is causing reality to crush my spirt. My fiance is of the opinion that "if we're doing a wedding, we might as well go all in" which I think is reckless and financially stupid. This has all led to us not knowing what to do...

If we have a wedding we will certainly need to take out a loan. At the moment, we have enoguh to secure a venue...nothing else lol. And venue prices are about 5,000USD minimum for the locations we're considering.

If we don't have a wedding, we'll be fine financially but I'll always feel alittle empty...like I missed an important milestone in my life. I know vow renewals etc. are a thing, but that's not something I'm particularly interested in.
