Loving In Verses, anyone else notice the chonkin' sub-bass?
Ghost (teal) vs Goliath (purple)
Love the new album! Genuinely fantastic, and especially impressive considering it's their 4th album in a career spanning 3 decades. For most bands, I usually only enjoy their first couple of albums, so I'm really grateful to be able to enjoy yet another great Karnivool album.
As a side note, has anyone else noticed the fat sub-bass on this album? Here's the average EQ curve from Ghost (teal) and Goliath (purple). Eyeballing it I'd say Ghost has 5-10dB more in the subs, which is huge! I didn't run every song through the analyser but it was a similar story with Drone too.
I mostly listen to my music at low volume so the extra low end sounds good, although at high volumes it does sound a bit rumbly/boomy to me. That’s just my opinion though, and probably says more about the acoustic treatment in my room than it does about the mix haha. I'm sure I'll get used to it.
Anyway I'm not complaining, just wondering whether anyone else noticed the change in mixing style. Definitely interesting to hear such powerful sub frequencies on a prog-rock album.
