Looking for the ultimate minimalist recipe: Thicker, copycat Tabasco (but ZERO salt)? 🌶️
Hey everyone,
I’m trying to craft a house hot sauce, but I have a specific challenge and want to tap into the collective wisdom here.
I want to make a vinegar-based hot sauce that mimics that classic, tangy Tabasco profile but with absolutely no added salt.
I also want it to be a bit thicker than standard Tabasco so it doesn’t just run right off my food.
The goal here is ultimate minimalism. The fewer ingredients, the better.
For those who have experimented with salt-free or super-simple sauces:
What peppers/vinegar ratio are you using to get that clean, bright tang without relying on salt to carry the flavor?
What is your favorite natural way to thicken it up slightly without adding a bunch of filler ingredients? (Xanthan gum? Simmering down a specific pepper mash? A touch of garlic/onion powder?)
I'm hoping to get your best bare-bones recipes or tips! Appreciate any help.
