Hey guys, I currently own a 2018 BMW 530i xDrive with 127,000 km on it, and I’m starting to think about parting ways with it. The car has been good overall, but the maintenance costs are really starting to add up. I spent around $4,000 on it two months ago, and now the steering rack is starting to make noise.

I’m considering trading it in for a BMW X3 M50. What do you guys think? How reliable do you expect it to be long-term? I know it’s a brand-new car and will come with warranty, but would an extended warranty be worth getting?

Also, how good are the Gen 3 B58 engines? I’m hoping the oil filter housing issue won’t happen on this one like it did on mine, lol.

hey everyone i have a 2018 bmw 530i xdrive g30 and im getting a clacking/knocking noise from the steering when parking or moving slowly. it happens when i turn the wheel left and right while the car is mostly stopped.

my mechanic checked it and said it seems to be the steering rack bushing/thrust piece. i found the repair kit on fcp euro but it looks like it’s only for the f30 chassis and not the g30. i also went to bmw parts and they told me id have to replace the entire steering rack which is around 10k and theres no way im spending that over what seems like a small bushing issue.

does anyone know if theres a separate repair kit, bushing, thrust piece or part number for the g30 electric steering rack?

Hey everyone, I own a 2017 G30 530 and primarily use it for my daily commute. A while back, my axle boot tore and started leaking. I had it fixed, but I’m concerned that the CV axle itself might be damaged. I’ve been hearing a couple of knocking noises when I fully turn my wheel left and right, not at high speeds, mostly when I’m trying to park. I’ve looked around and found the front driver-side axle going for over $1500. Is it really worth that price, or are there any good aftermarket axles available? I’ve seen people use eBay axles on M550s, but I’m not sure. Let me know if it’s truly worth spending over $1500 on it, or if I should just get an aftermarket axle instead.
