Hey Everyone I did a Brake job on my 2002 Montero XLS Automatic and now my transmission is shot.
It started when I replaced all four brakes about a month ago. First few weeks were fine then slowly got worse. I did not do the calipers initially and there was a lot of brake drag. I adjusted everything multiple times and finally tried to put new calipers on but i think the strain of dragging brakes pushed my transmission components over the edge. I bled the brakes, changed rear diff fluid, and adjusted the parking brake shoes. Nothing fixed it. Now the transmission rattles and clunks loudly every time I shift into reverse, barely moves in reverse, and revs up going forward like it's slipping. The front driveshaft also has a little play in it. 186,000 miles.
Posting a video of underneath the vehicle looking directly at the transmission so you can hear exactly what it does when I shift into reverse. Sounds like something came loose inside.
Does anybody have any idea what I'm dealing with here? Should I just sell it or bite the bullet and take it to a transmission shop? so far im into the entire vehicle for about $2500, that includes buying it over 6 months ago and a full tune up. all fluids (except transmission Fluid), brand new brakes and timing belt was done by the previous owner at 176,000 miles.
