Best Drag Setup (Drive Modes) for Stock Scat Pack?

Hello fellow Challengers,

Last weekend I finally tried my first drag race just for fun and to learn something new. Since drag racing is not really common here in Europe, it was more of a hobby event during a car meet on a mostly unprepared surface.

I have a couple of questions because most of the answers I found online seemed either biased or inconsistent.

Right now my car is completely stock:

  • Scat Pack Widebody
  • no mods
  • stock seasonal tires that I’m planning to replace later with something better suited for this car

Since I’m still learning, I’d love to hear what setups and drive modes work best for you guys and why. I guess this is already figured out in the community.

I noticed many people recommend:

  • Transmission: Sport instead of Track
  • Traction: Sport
  • Suspension: Street

When I raced, I used full Track mode for everything. What I don’t really understand is why setting the suspension to Street could improve results. What difference does it actually make in practice? Also, And what about the Traction and Trans?

As for launch techniques, I guess there are basically three options as I'm aware:

  1. Launch Control
  2. Foot braking
  3. Flooring it from idle

From my understanding:

  • flooring it from idle seems hardest on the drivetrain and probably the least efficient
  • foot braking gives the most control, but also requires the most experience
  • Launch Control is probably the safest and most consistent option for beginners, my guess?

Correct me if I’m wrong.

I also assume that turning traction fully off and using foot braking probably gives the best potential times, but also comes with a much higher risk of losing control. Since I’m still learning and racing next to other cars, I want to approach it with some respect and not do anything stupid, so maybe staying with LC for now?

Another thing I read is that some people prefer foot braking over Launch Control on stock tires. I’m curious why, especially since LC can be adjusted to pretty low RPMs and not only aggressive 2k+ launches. How would you do it with the stock ones, and how with the better ones?

When I tried Launch Control, I also noticed a small delay before the car actually started moving. I assume that was because I was holding the brake hard and reacting too slowly when releasing it, but maybe I’m misunderstanding how it works in combination with the tree countdown.

Anyway, these are just my beginner thoughts after my first event. It was a really fun weekend and I’d love to learn more. I’d appreciate any tips, experiences, or even if you want to share your setups, tires, drive modes, and times. Would be really cool to compare results and learn. :)

Thank you for any answers and tips!
