The Witches' Brew - Power pop song from a dream (very rough, free to use/remix)
I had this dream ages ago and thought I might do something with it, but I don't really have the resources or talent! It's extremely rough but if anyone wants to use it, get inspo, or reduce reuse recycle, please go ham.
[Context: Not totally relevant, because it didn't make much sense, but in-dream there was a war that broke out and I was stuck in this mountain village. Over the next few hours people started accusing one another of colluding with the enemy and it turned into this full blown Lord of the Flies/Monsters on Maple Street situation. Eventually a very Chappell Roan-like woman got up and chastised the mob for going insane and started preforming this power pop style song. It started with the accusations that there was a spy among people and turned into instances of (very loosely) historical themes of people turning against each other, generally all witch hunting/paranoia, namely the Salem witch trials and the Red Scare.
The first verse turned into montage about the daughter of a guy called Henry Manville XVI being accused of witchcraft and then incriminating other girls so that she could get out of it. So the girls were put on trial and the montage cut to the parents picking up their remains (which had been transformed into monster taxidermy??) I don't remember 100% of the song, but this was most of it.]
[Verse 1]
[Unfortch don't remember the beginning of it.]
[...] feared their souls would writhe
Henry Manville sixteenth's daughter took the stand lied:
"Accused of heresy
The pyre’s calling me
My curse was not alone
The others should atone"
Seven parents cried
Their daughters pulled aside
Along that burning line
The monsters came alive
‘Cause Henry Manville's daughter drank the burning witches brew
Bottled terror sold the slaughter, now the curse is coming true.
[Bridge]
Roil toil, double trouble, light the fire, pop the bubble
Soiled hands don’t look so bad when digging in the dark
Eye of newt, toe of frog, flower of wisteria
Rumor seed, status feed, boiled in hysteria
(Whispering)
Drink, drink
Witches brew
Now they’re coming
After you
[Verse 2]
[Unfortch even more spotty and I don't remember the exact lines. There was something like 'In the east there was a revolution that shook the western constitution' but it also had to do with McCarthyism and 1950.]
No more brooms and pointed hats, just little flags and wire taps.
Turn out these twisted lies
In ink dried alibis
With serpents in your eyes
Who can rule out the spies
‘Cause patriots turn traitors when you drink the witches brew
The shadow you’ve been hunting is the one that walks with you.
