For the first time ever, both the ROH Men's World Champion and the ROH Women's World Champion are competing in the Owen Hart Cup.
Note: this is Athena's third entry, while no reigning ROH men's world champ before Bandido ever took part in the Owen before.
Red Velvet: "I plan to be here [in AEW] for a long time — this is my home, this is where I got my story started; and I'm gonna say it out loud: I wanna be here when the Hall of Fame presents itself for AEW 'cause I will be a part of it. THAT's my goal." 〚Supercard of Honor post-show media scrum〛
New Japan talents should win the AEW Trios Titles and the National Championship at this year's Forbidden Door cycle.
AEW guys have won loads of NJPW's belts over the past half a decade, they even frickin' captured their world title on an NJPW PPV then showed it off as spoils of war on Dynamite — twice!! It's time to finally let their guys win some AEW belts for once.
New Japan's main event scene has been decimated with departures since 2024 and they're struggling to promote their young prospects into top guys — having a talent like Yuya Uemura or Ryohei Oiwa become the first New Japan guy ever to win an AEW belt - even if it's just the lowly National title - would certainly be a Tokyo Sports front cover-worthy news, and I believe that it would help a lot in boosting the guy's star power at home in the land of the rising sun.
Trios and National are the lowest value belts in the company and are supposed to be hot potatoed anyway, which makes them perfect fodder to be plundered by 'invaders' from another promotion. Additionally, having these belts sporadically be taken away to New Japan or CMLL for a month or two would serve a greater purpose of shutting up the prevalent "AEW has too many belts" criticism.
One more point about the trios titles: at the first Forbidden Door, FTR - who were the ROH tag team champs at the time - won the IWGP tag titles that were held by Jeff Coff and Great-O-Khan in a winner-take-all title match — I think it would be nice to see a feud between the AEW Trios champions and the Never Openweight Six-man champions that would lead to Nooj's trios champs beating AEW's trios champs in a title vs title match.
