What do you guys think about the growing betting scandals tied to basketball?
I have been reading a lot more about the federal basketball betting investigations involving alleged point-shaving in college basketball and insider betting tied to NBA information.
One of the names involved, Marves Fairley aka Vezino Locks, was apparently connected to both the NCAA-related case and a separate case involving alleged betting based on nonpublic NBA lineup/player availability info.
What's wild to me is how much legalized sports betting has changed the environment around basketball over the last few years. Between prop betting, injury news moving markets instantly, and gambling content everywhere online now, it feels like the pressure and temptation around the sport is completely different from what it was even 5-10 years ago.
I wonder if this is something the NBA and NCAA can realistically control long term, or if it's just going to become a bigger issue as sports betting keeps growing.
