Next Day Discussion: This One’s For the Phair-Weather Fans and Ang Stans

Four consecutive losses can test the mettle and dedication of even the most ardent fans. What’s the antidote for those who can only enjoy the team during fair weather?…apparently Phair weather.

Straus finally gave Casey Phair her shot to impress by inserting her into the starting 11. He rotated Nealy Martin to center back and she played the position like she was the second coming of Naomi Girma. Ang took absolute control of box when Lo got the ball at the spot. And how about those teenagers! Fuller was substituted in with fresh legs after 70 minutes and sparkled like a diamond under the BMO lights. Gisele gulped down enough pickle juice so that she could shine yet again (without cramping!) for the full 90. 2 more goal contributions for the stat sheet!

All I can offer Mr. Straus is 🫡

Angel City flies to Houston tomorrow. The Dash only generated 0.2 xG last night against San Diego. Somehow they scored 2 goals though. They went up 2-1 in the 89th minute, but the Wave tied the match 5 minutes into stoppage time. That’s a tough way to add a point to the table when you’re playing at home.

It’s the next day…the day after a BMO win…a good day for the fair weather fans and the Phair weather fans…and a day after Fuller, Anderson, and Thompson made plays that got us up out our seats and applauding. Let’s discuss last night’s match against KC, this weekend’s match against Houston…or let’s discuss whatever you like.

Next Day Discussion: A Thorn In Our Side

ACFC still doesn’t have a win in Portland, but the team traveled north, faced a top three opponent, prevented one of the league’s highest scoring offenses from getting the ball in the back of the net, and came back with a point on the table. It wasn’t the preferred outcome, but hopefully it signaled a change in momentum after a string of recent losses.

They have a flight back to LA, a mid-week home game against the KC Current (who had a difficult start to the season, but have been on a tear lately), and then head right back to LAX for a flight to Houston. Let’s hope those legs are rested and they can stay healthy.

It’s the next day…the day after a scoreless game for Sophia Wilson…the day after Maiara and Sveindis watched the match from LA…the day after the last matchup with the Thorns for the 2026 season. Let's discuss the game, the heavy load of matches this week, or let's discuss whatever you like.

Score Prediction Poll: Game 9 - ACFC vs KC

60% of you predicted that ACFC would lose to Portland…but they didn’t! It’s a quick turn-around this week with the red-hot KC Current coming to LA for a Wednesday night matchup.

Angel City is 3-1-4 and they sit below the playoff line…though with two games in hand. They have one draw and no wins in their last 5 matchups. The KC Current are above the playoff line with a 5-0-4 record and one game in hand. They have won 4 of their last 5 games, and have won their last three matches by a combined score of 8-1. Temwa Chawinga has scored 5 goals in the last 180 minutes.

Who will win on Wednesday evening at BMO? Vote in the poll and discuss below.

Next Day Discussion: Four of a Kind...Only the Wrong Kind

Angel City's four consecutive losses have come to Orlando (currently sit at 6th in the table), Portland (#1), Utah (#3), and San Diego (#2). The three wins to start the season were against Chicago (15th in the table), Bay (12th), and Houston (8th). Noticing a theme of their 3-0-4 record?

Also, while they currently sit below the playoff line, they have two games in hand.

But the rest of May will be a force march - with 4 games in 15 days - before the summer break. Of the teams remaining this month - Portland, KC, Houston, and Carolina - only Portland sits above the playoff line.

It's the next day - the day after another one goal loss to one of the top teams in the league. Discuss the loss, the recent quality of their opponents, the dense schedule remaining for the rest of May...or discuss whatever you like.

10% of you correctly predicted this weekend’s loss to Utah 😔. But it’s a new week! The Wave drive up from San Diego this weekend for another home game at BMO.

ACFC is currently 8th in table with a 3-0-3 record. They’ve scored 11 goals and allowed 7 goals. But they’ve only played 6 games so there’s a lot of opportunity right in front of them. This is the second game in May of six they have this month.

The Wave are 3rd with a 5-0-3 record. They’ve scored 11 goals and allowed 8 goals. Dudinha and (Virginia’s own) Lia Godfrey lead the attack with 5 goal contributions each and center back Kennedy Wesley has been a darling of the stats heads and USWNT commenters lately.

ACFC is ahead in the historic head-to-head with a 4-5-3 record since both teams joined the league.

Who will win on Saturday? Vote in the poll and discuss below.

I spy a KC hat on Keely at the 0:53 mark in the teaser (some of the show was shot on location in KC). From Apple: “In season four, Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”
