Tracking and knowing what to do next

After teaching online for a few years I realised the hardest part of lessons wasn’t actually teaching, it was mentally tracking recurring mistakes while still keeping the conversation flowing.

I kept ending lessons with random scattered notes:

  • pronunciation corrections
  • grammar mistakes
  • vocab gaps
  • “teach this next lesson” ideas

…and then forgetting half of it by the next class.

I ended up building myself a super lightweight lesson tracker during lessons just to reduce the mental overload.

Curious if other online tutors have the same problem or if I’m just disorganised?

Does anyone else end lessons with loads of notes but still not sure what to teach next?

I kept running into this, especially with back to back lessons. I’d write down errors, good language, random bits, but afterwards it still felt a bit unclear what the next lesson should actually be.

I started using a really simple way of tracking what the student does during the lesson, and it’s helped me turn that into a clear next lesson focus and something I can share with the student.

Curious how others handle this. Do you have a system or do you just go by feel?

I kept running into the same problem. I’d have loads of messy notes after a lesson but still not be completely sure what to teach next. So I've built a really simple tracker for myself. During the lesson I just tap what the student does, and at the end it gives me a clear next lesson focus plus some feedback I can send them.

It’s not a platform, just something I keep open while I teach. It’s free, no login, and works in your browser or on your phone.

The best part is it gives you a clean copy and paste summary so the student can actually see their progress and it doesn’t just feel like a chat.

I’ve found it really helps, so I thought I’d share it. Happy to send it over if you want to try it 👍
