What’s up with college/university?

Hi all i’m from Australia and here our university has a government loan option where you only pay your fees back once your earning a certain amount of money, this means you don’t have to worry about paying your loan until you are have stable income. In the US I see it’s a massive thing for people to pay for college/have a college fund, do you guys not have any loan options? or is it solely reliant on paying up front/taking out a bank loan.

With that as well, this might be more dramatised on Tv but it seems that the general attitude is that everyone goes to college even if your not sure what you want to do or if you don’t want to go? In aus you only really only go to uni if you know what degree and career you’re aiming for and even then many people do not end up going. But considering it seems like such a financial burden I don’t understand this?

I also feel like college in US seems to be all high school graduates, is it less common for older people to go to college? Anyways i’m just really curious and would love in some Americans were interested in answering!

i’m rewatching season 3 and got up to two girls one solo (disgusting name) and all the mums seemed upset with Abby that she checked the scores. I don’t dance but i figured it would normal for a dance teacher to look at the score sheets and see where they lacked or anything like that, but because I don’t dance I don’t know for sure. Is it normal that abby went and checked the scores or were the mums right that she only checked it because she wanted maddy to win

(also how does a judge at a dance competition over score someone? wouldn’t they know how much each criteria is worth considering they are scoring all day)
