I recently got admitted to the MSc Applied Data Science program at Utrecht University and I’m trying to decide if I should go ahead with it.

One thing that’s confusing me is that it’s a 1-year master’s, while most data science programs in Europe are usually 2 years.

From what I understand, this program is more application-focused and fast-paced, not as research-heavy as the 2-year Data Science master’s.

So I wanted to ask:

  1. Is a 1-year DS degree from Utrecht actually valued in the job market?
  2. Does it feel too rushed or surface-level?
  3. Is it worth the tuition (25k euros for non-EU)?
Would it limit opportunities compared to a 2-year program?
