SHRM exam or something else?[N/A]
Good afternoon everyone.
I tried to be self reliant and searched the sub for answers to this but didn’t find much.
I saw a HR Generalist position open up recently at a huge company and I was ant to apply to it. I meet the requirements but u der the preferred section it just states “Human Resources certification” I looked it up and the SHRM-CP test came up.
Before I fork up a bunch of money, Is that a good route to take?
Little bit about me. I was a GS employee for almost 6 years working HR. Pay, benefits, massive amount of reports, leading and conducting meetings/conference calls with higher echelon leaders to support military decision making. Everything of the sort. Fair amount of program management with some huge wins.
So, I’m not exactly a stranger to the role but as a civilian role, I am a total newby. I would love to move into HR in the civilian world as I genuinely enjoy helping others and seeing the bigger picture. I loved my job a lot. About 3 years ago, I had a chance to do the PHR at work but it was quickly shot down by my supervisor. I fought for it as continuing education but I was not successful, unfortunately.
Is doing the SHRM training, membership and testing worth it or should I be looking at something else that fits this “Human resources certification”?
Thank you. 😊 🙏🏻
