Thoughts and insights about cooks
Hey everyone, I’m seriously considering joining and the cook trade has really caught my eye. I’m super curious about the culinary side of the military, but I wanted to get some thoughts and insight out of curiosity.
How does the day-to-day grind compare to civilian kitchens? Like, what's the balance between working in a standard base galley versus field kitchens during exercises?
Also, how much actual cooking freedom do you get vs. just strictly following standard recipe cards?
If anyone has insights on the training pipeline, shift schedules, or just general advice on whether you'd choose the trade again, I’d love to hear it. Thanks!
