Let’s talk money

Let’s get a little personal here - throwaway for obvious reasons. How are y’all making enough profit to sustain life? I’ve done the hard math and even at $75/dozen (which is comparable to other cookiers in my state), the math just isn’t mathing. $75/dozen minus $4 it costs for supplies (ingredients, packaging, etc) leaves me with $71. Then you withhold 25% for taxes leaving me with $53.25. Now we divide that by the hours it takes to complete 1 dozen from start to finish which for me can be anywhere from 6-12 hours including drawing mockups, cleaning, the actual cookie making, packaging, etc, and we’re left with anywhere between $8.90-$4.40/hour. This just doesn’t seem sustainable. I have a full time job (95k/year) and do this on the side for fun, but considering I can make $33/hour at my other part time job in healthcare, it’s getting harder and harder to justify it. This doesn’t even include insurance, cottage food licensing cost, etc. How are y’all doing it?
