Thoughts on USTP Cyber Security MSc + Living in St. Pölten vs Commuting from Vienna?
I’m an international student from Africa finishing up my undergraduate coursework next year. I'm planning my Master’s in Austria and looking into the MSc in Cyber Security and Resilience at USTP (FH St. Pölten).
I’ll be actively learning German, but I'm looking for English-taught programs to keep the academic transition smooth.
A few questions for students, alumni, or locals:
- USTP Program & Career Prospects: How is the quality, hands-on/dual setup, and workload of the Cyber Security & Resilience MSc at FH St. Pölten? How is its reputation in the Austrian tech industry?
Accommodation in St. Pölten vs. Vienna: How competitive is getting a room in local student dorms like or Campus Dorms? Is it easy for non-EU students to secure housing from abroad for visa/residence permit proof, or do most people commute from Vienna? And how easy it it to get housing in Vienna
- St. Pölten vs. Commuting from Vienna: Do most students actually live in St. Pölten, or commute from Vienna via the Railjet (~25 mins)? What's student life like for English speakers/internationals in St. Pölten?
- Other English-Taught Programs in Austria: Are there other solid English-taught Master’s in Cybersecurity, IT Security, or CS in Austria worth looking into that maybe have a better program or reputation
- Part-time Jobs: How feasible is finding an English-friendly working student position in IT/Cyber in Lower Austria or Vienna while building up German skills? Or even any kind of part time Job
- Since I’ll know a bit of German I won’t mind one that needs a bit of German
- Anything specific non-EU/African applicants should keep in mind for visas/residencei permits?
- Thanks for any insights!
