Possibly studying in Austria?

This summer I spent some time in Vienna with my family and didn’t expect to fall so hard for the city. I’m now seriously considering moving there for a Masters after I finish my Bachelor’s next year. I’m from the UAE, so the lifestyle, culture , climate and of course the overall way of life are very different. I know being a tourist is like a honeymoon phase so I’m trying to get a more realistic picture before I commit. If you live or have lived in Vienna, Austria, I’m really curious to now..

What’s daily life actually like as a young person or student?

Cost of living (especially rent, food, transport) for someone on a student budget.

How hard is it to find housing in Vienna?

Do most people speak English or is German pretty essential for daily life and university?

What’s the student experience like (social life, making friends as an international student, part time work opportunities)?

Bureaucracy, visas, and settling in as a non-EU citizen?

The biggest culture shocks or things that surprised you (positively or negatively) compared to what you expected?

Thank you in advance💖

Dummer Spontankauf Fahrzeug

UPDATE:

====≠====================================== ======================≠====================

Hallo Leute, hab was dummes gemacht und Montag spontan n Fahrzeug gekauft.

Hi is anybody familiar with this via ferrata? What’s the difficulty? And how are the cables along the way? It leads west from Schönberg after Ostgrat (Austria). I managed to find info only about the short route between Schönberg and Ostgrat but none about this following, longer one.

MA 35: What are my rights if an employee behaves unprofessionally?

Hi everyone,
What are my rights if an MA 35 employee behaves rudely or unprofessionally towards me during an appointment?
What steps can I take? Can I ask for the employee’s name, request a supervisor, or file an official complaint? Could a complaint negatively affect my residence/immigration case?

Technically have citizenship but no proof - moving to Austria with non-EU spouse

TLDR at bottom of the post

I have German citizenship (born and raised there, German mother) and a German passport. My father (married to my mother at the time) is Austrian, so I also have Austrian citizenship through him, though I've never had a passport or Staatsbürgerschaftsnachweis.

I actually only found out I had Austrian citizenship when I moved to another city at 18 and the lady at the Bürgeramt asked why I hadn't put down my Austrian citizenship on the form. It doesn't say it anywhere on my birth certificate and it had just never occurred to me as a child or teenager that I have it and my parents never mentioned it, but apparently it must say it somewhere on my file, perhaps because of my parents' marriage certificate?

I've not thought about getting an Austrian passport much because I didn't see any advantages compared to just having my German passport and it seemed like a lot of paperwork to get the Staatsbürgerschaftsnachweis, especially because I don't have much contact to my father.

Now, I live in the UK on settled status and my UK spouse and I are considering moving to Austria (among other options). I understand it's much easier as an EU citizen with a non-EU spouse to move to an EU country you're not a citizen of due to the Free Movement regulations. So basically it would be easier for us to move to Austria with me being just a German citizen rather than an Austrian citizen as well.

Now my question is would the Austrian government know I have citizenship if I've never lived there, never had a passport or Staatsbürgerschaftsnachweis? Would they cross-reference everything with the files the German government holds (can they do that?) and find out that way?

I will also soon be eligible for UK citizenship and I know that if I take on another citizenship, I will automatically lose my Austrian citizenship. So getting UK citizenship would completely eliminate the problem (and my savings lol - it costs £2k) I would assume? But also, to lose the Austrian citizenship would I first need proof that I have it? And if we were to move with me having given up my Austrian citizenship, would my UK passport be proof enough that I don't have it anymore if they do have my citizenship somewhere on file?

TLDR: Dual citizen Austria Germany, no proof of Austrian citizenship, wanting to move to Austria with non-EU spouse, can we get around strict immigration rules for non-EU spouses of Austrian citizens?

Danke

Do you think Innsbruck is still car-centric?

Anyone from Austria can share their point of view?
If you look at the data cars are the least used means of transport. Transit is absolutely great for its size and cycling is acceptable.
BUT while cycling I noted that infrastructure is patchy and you're often left with nothing having to share the road with cars on wide roads. If you go along the rivers you might get anywhere and fast but when you go south via Suedring it's pretty bad.
And there's cars that still dominate everything, the state roads 171/174 cut through the city where people live and move around and being a "flow first" type of roads they get priority at intersection and quality of life = high traffic, high speeds and constant noise.
My impression is that they tried but with high density comes high interactions with cars.
What would you do more?

Moving to vienna using post

I'm not sure how to title this correctly, but i am moving to vienna from a village in salzburgland in a few months. Through my whole time of living here i have a lot of stuff, like clothes, electronics and so on. I have a klimaticket ö, so a lot of the stuff could be moved just using two big suitcases that i have and a backpack. I don't think that it would be a problem if i take a train with all that stuff a few times. BUT i also do have clothes that won't make any sense to be transported this way. Like jackets, shoes etc. I also do have a few bug items, like my computer table (which is pretty easy to disassemble and pack in some kind of a box). My question is, if this is actually a normal practice in austria. I never moved anywhere properly before, so I don't know if that would be weird. The price of these whole shenanigans is also a big concern for me. I tried to contact a few private companies that do the transportation of goods and the prices that they told me were shocking. So what is the best way to do all of this?

US citizen arrested for 88 days in the previous 180

At 77 years of age, I had gotten through life never arrested and then Austrian police arrested me for residing in Austria illegally. I had been in Austria for 4 nights. The reason was my time in the Schengen Zone which I stated was 88 days in the 180 days. As the officers were going through my passport stamps, when I asked repeatedly, how many days? She repeatedly said we are trying to figure that out. Too which I responded 88 days. Because the officers (4 of them) could not figure out the number, a couple of hours later, 2 border control officers were brought into the case. Having been voluntarily ( I thought in the office, trying to help them with the stamps and numbers), it was with hope, I greeted whom I thought would be knowledgeable on 90 in 180 day rule. A few minutes later, I understood they had not been properly trained in the 90 in 180 day rule; Austrian border control officers. The arrest was announced; strip searched to underwear, mug shot, and fingerprints. An hour later, they had the answer of how many days. 88 days! They unarrested me! Then the head border control police person said I must leave in 2 days, I will be overstay in 3. I said I will be at 88 days tomorrow and the next day and my 90th is in about 4 weeks. The officer went wild with threats. Said that cannot be. I am not here to educate anyone on how that can be. I did get through to 2 of the 6 officers involved. One said; I believe you are correct. The other border control officer seemed rather embarrassed about the be gone in 3 days threat. I do not blame the border control officers! Officers lacking in training are a danger to us all. Put into more serious situations, the result can be deadly.

What do Austrian families actually eat for dinner on a normal weekday?

I’m Japanese and I’m really interested in everyday Austrian home cooking.

I’m not looking for traditional dishes for special occasions, but the kind of food an ordinary family would actually make after work/school.

What did you eat for dinner yesterday? Or what would a typical Monday–Friday dinner look like in your family?

I’d especially love to hear from Austrian people about what you eat at home, including simple/quick meals.

Schwarmwissen zu Solo-Gamedev bzw. Freiberufler in Österreich

Servus mitanand!

Hilfe oida...
