Our boy is killing us via sleep deprivation

Our boy is 15 weeks old and he sleeps so little we are both like the walking dead. Until 12 weeks he slept reasonably well, then my partner decided to start cosleeping with him.

He had issues successfully breast feeding but around 10 weeks he finally got the hang of it and my partner started cosleeping to support it at night. We had a week of pure bliss at night then all of a sudden he started fussing at bed time and about two weeks ago he started to cry whenever he got tired, even during the day, unless we are holding him. When he gets tired he starts crying to be held. If he’s in his push chair sometimes he’ll naturally fall asleep, but at home he either has to be feeding or in our arms. He refuses pacifiers and so far we haven’t found anything else that helps.

We start his bedtime routine with a feed, then change him, dress him, read to him, dim the lights, put on white noise, before placing him in the crib. As soon as the lights are dimmed he starts protesting. Putting him in the crib also triggers crying. I always have to pick him up and rock him for 5 minutes to get him to calm down and fall asleep. Attempting to place him in the crib while calm but not sleeping triggers screaming.

We are desperate to start sleep training but are unsure if it’s too early. He weights 6.5kg, he self soothes during the day by sucking both his hands and feet, he’s already transitioned out of a swaddle and during the night will roll a lot side to side and sometimes into his stomach.

He usually sleeps from 20:00 until 01:30, when wakes demands to be fed, and then he wakes up every 40 mins or so and my partner is only able to sooth him with the boob.

We are so desperate to begin sleep training and get more that 4 consecutive hours of sleep a night, and advice would be much appreciated.
