"Underpowered" crossovers and looking for suggestions

Currently, when I look at crossovers, most of the comments I see are about the engines being “underpowered.” Since I’m still new to driving and only recently got my license, I want to better understand how people determine if a vehicle is underpowered or not.

For context, I drive a Vios every other weekend to gain more experience before eventually getting my own car. And I usually see the engine comments on the following vehicles I've checked: Yaris Cross (ICE), HR-V (ICE), and Xforce.

Additionally, just dropping my own use case, conditions, and units I've been looking to get if anyone wants to provide their own experiences with these cars.

Use Case / Conditions:

  • In average, I'd estimate to use the car 1 to 3 times a week for going to the office, grocery run, or weekend trips within or outside the city and the occasional Baguio trip.
  • A bit tech savvy in life, but I can live without a power tail gate, 360 camera, and a sun roof. But I'd prefer the unit having a clear and crisp reverse camera / sensors for peace of mind.
  • Passengers are my significant other, and my parents. While hindi laging kasama ang parents, would always want to make everyone comfortable in either row.
  • Unable to commit with BEV/PHEV cars since walang space for a wall outlet sa bahay and I don't want to rely on charging stations outside.

My current options are the following:

  1. Toyota Corolla Cross
    1. Pros:
      1. Hybrid engine for fuel efficiency
      2. Utilizes lithium-ion battery compared to the previous Ni-MH
    2. Cons:
      1. Masikip na second row
      2. TSS only comes in the V variant which is quite a price increase.
  2. Honda HR-V (ICE)
    1. Pros:
      1. Managed to drive a BR-V before, and I liked the ride quality and engine response.
      2. Second row leg room is better than the Corolla Cross.
    2. Cons:
      1. Second row head room is lower than both the Corolla Cross and Xforce.
      2. Outdated infotainment design or unit compared to the other two.
  3. Mitsubishi Xforce
    1. Pros:
      1. High ground clearance
      2. Spacious in both head and legroom.
      3. Better discounts that could be due to lack of interest of the public with the initial pricing.
    2. Cons:
      1. ADAS only comes in the GT variant.
      2. As per user feedback (based on Facebook groups), noticeable infotainment lag and bluetooth connectivity frequently drops.
