I'm looking for information on what sort of assignment MSMC would give for their assessments. I know this is the kind of thing that is left intentionally vague for a GM to have room to work, but I'd like to generate some ideas here.

I'm working with two players, one completely new and one who hasn't touched the game since it came out. New player is a Gundam fangirl and very into performance/drama aspect of RPG's, the other is a more tactical player, the sort that would enjoy Battlegroup. They have pretty free reign on their backstories up to the point that they're going to join MSMC and get put on a milk run with a batch of other new recruits.

• Should I just randomly generate a scenario and then look for ways for it to go pear-shaped?
• What are some specializations/task force assignments I could slot them into that make it more interesting?
• What is a MSMC "detachment" in terms of assets? I think I read somewhere that it was "battalion-size," but we don't have a definite number of... anything, really, that makes up a battalion. How many ships/what size? How many mechs, vehicles, personnel?
