Trying to book a passport appointment at the German Embassy London and the system is showing nothing available. The calendar doesn't even go beyond June so I can't see any July slots either.
I've heard new slots drop at midnight German time on weekdays - can anyone confirm if this is still the case for the London embassy? Any tips to get an appointment would be massively appreciated.
My agent (Polaron) recently followed up with the BVA on my application and was told by the case officer that certificates have been issued. Really exciting news, but I have a few questions for anyone who’s been through this stage:
1. How long does it typically take from certificates being issued at the BVA to them arriving at the relevant German Embassy? I’m based in London so it would go to the German Embassy London.
2. Am I technically a German citizen now, or does something still need to happen formally before that’s confirmed?
3. Is there any chance the BVA or embassy could come back with further questions at this point, or is it essentially done?
4. How does the embassy contact you when the certificate arrives? Email, post, or do you have to chase them?
5. What do I need to do once I’m contacted, and is there anything I should start pulling together now? Birth certificates, passport photos, anything else worth having ready before they reach out?
Any experiences or timelines appreciated. Been a long process and just want to be prepared.
Got my German citizenship certificate approved via §5 Erklärungserwerb (descent) - can a family member collect it on my behalf?
Hi all, just got the news from Polaron that my citizenship certificate has been issued by the BVA and will be sent to the German Embassy in Pretoria (this is for my sister, I am based in London and collected mine there).
My sister is also an applicant and her certificate is going to the Pretoria embassy. She is currently not in a position to go in person and my dad lives in South Africa. Is there any way he can collect the certificate on her behalf?
If so, what would the process look like? Would she need to provide a signed authorisation letter, power of attorney, or anything else? Has anyone done this or know if the Pretoria embassy allows it?
