Choosing the flair was hard. I bought my ECM Classika PID used. Fantastic machine. Had it producing amazing cups. Decided that a little maintenance was in order and bought a replacement shower screen (E61200NT) and silicon gasket. This was the same shower screen that was in the machine. Removing the old screen and gasket was easy. The shower screen was really filthy. It cleaned up ok but I installed the new one. The shower looks great… all systems go. EXCEPT shots are running about 5-6 seconds fast… clearly there is more water flow. I have flow control and I have tightened it up a bit. And dropped grind down finer from 72 to about 59. But shots aren’t tasting great. Anyone been here before? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I bought a used Classika PID w flow control a few months ago. Thought I would pop the head and give the shower screen a good cleaning and replace the gasket. The screen was about half clogged, so I was happy I did this. But the result is that water is running through the head much faster and it is affecting my shots negatively (they were perfect before). I have been reducing the flow control and grinding finer but the taste isn’t as good as before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Well the out of the box for this Mahlkönig E64 grinder has been anything but smooth. First the good, grind quality is excellent and there is no mess at all coming from the chute. and it is super nice not to have to weigh out 18g of beans!

The difficult, the out of the box experience is totally not intuitive when it comes to the necessary steps for setup. WiFi was easy (has to 2.4ghz not 5). Was instantly connected. It immediately started doing an update without warning (I was in a menu). I got messages that the update failed to write to chip #2 (whatever that means). There is no way to go back and force an update on the menu. And I have no idea what is or isn’t updated. The calibrations really should be your first steps or you will waste a LOT of time and beans (like I did). Load center calibration requires a 1kg weight (only), I had to improvise that because it has to fit on the portafilter forks - I may have messed up the initial setting here or it may have been off from the factory. Then the portafilter has to be weighed and saved, then it has to be added to appropriate recipe. Finally the burrs needed calibration (shots were running super fast even when dialed fine). This calibration was pretty far off out of the box. All grind by sync settings have to be turned on in the recipe as well. Hardly straight forward at all for the home user.

I also bought the Sync scale which had a dead battery on arrival so needed to be charged. I find it very finicky. Menu isn’t great. Hard to understand. Display kept shutting off. Will report if I get the kinks out and whether it’s worth the trouble in the next few days.

The app as others have said only gets you set up with connectivity. No other functionality works.

I will add to this after I get some more experience (I had enough caffeine for one day 😵‍💫).

It’s a beautiful grinder. I hope all turns out well. But it has been a lot of frustration and work so far.
