Impact of not having ability to enter joint non-registered account.

One thing I want to check about Impact of not having ability to enter joint non-registered investment account.

We hold most of our non-registered in joint account (95%+). Right now, I manually divide the joint account by two, then add our own non-registered to come up with the total non-registered investment for both of us.

However, think about it more, I think there are issue with this setup.

If treat the jointed account two individual account, and one person pass say 10 years before the other, doesn't it create an capital gain tax for investment?

While in real life, if it is hold in Joint account, there are no capital gain tax because asset are NOT deem disposal, the 2nd spouse just take over the ownership??

I am just not sure did I miss something on this.

Ability to enter asset allocation for different account type in Investment Plan section

Can we add ability to enter asset allocation for different account type in Investment Plan section?

What I mean is, able to enter: Equity / Fixed Income / Savings allocation % for RRSP/RRIF vs TFSA vs Non-Registered account?

I know I can do it in Advance section but if I have 5 scenario, I have to do it 5 time.

Is there recent change that created some bug???

I haven't check for a month. Today I check and there are couple warning which was not there before. Is there a bug from recent change? Here is the warning I been trying to solve but doesn't matter what I do, is still there

1). In Projections section, it keep giving me warning said "Allocation Error Details The Total Asset Allocation of Cash, Fixed Income and Stocks in Net Return for the following accounts does not equal 100%"

I double checked, In Investment planning > Asset Allocation section, I entered Stock is 100% allocation, the rest is 0%. Also checked Projection section, non-register, it is correct, but the warning always there.

2). In Investment Plan > Type of return and portfolio turnover, I use following number:

% of Stock Return From Capital Gain = 76%

% of Stock Return From Canadian Eligible Dividend = 12%

% of Stock Return From Foreign Dividend = 12%

However in the "Projections" section, when I look at the details in "Type of stock return, it show Capital Gain = 76%, Canadian Eligible Dividend is 13% and Foreign Dividend is 13%, which all add up to 102%.

Can't figure out what are the issue.

Feature request: Option to include/exclude Life insurance payout on the Income chart

What I notice is because I have very large life insurance and on the year that it payout, it does show on the Income and expenses (as Investment deposit) chart. It make the rest of the year not showing any details since the life insurance payout / put into investment dominated the chart, so everything etc look so little. Can we have feature for the chart to show / hide Life Insurance related income/expenses (Invest of the payout fund) ?

Trying to understand how to enter Life Insurance premiums

Trying to understand how to enter Life Insurance premiums.

I entered all my life insurance policy in the Insurance policy section, Including how much I need to pay as premiums, and when I don't need to pay premiums.

Does those add to my "Expenses" because I already entered it? or I still have to enter it myself?

Can't figure out some odd problem

I made very good progress learning Adviice last couple days. There are 2 things I still couldn't figure out.

1). I put in TFSA Contribution as $7000/A per person. But when I go to Summary page, for some reason it showing me $30000 TFSA contribution. I can't find what is the reason causing this.

2). I can't find a way to say any surplus, invest them into non-registered account. I try to search for the answer but is ask me to do manual over-ride, rather than an option to just put whatever the sur-plus is into non-register account .

Any way to document % of investment allocation per market

I see there is an allocation for Saving / Fixed income / Stock. I use Stock as ETF (Mean it is equity).

Now, I am thinking should we actually seperate the equity part as Canadian Equity / US Equity / International Equity / Emerging Market equity? I think the only different here is it can better estimate future growth and treatment of Dividend income.

I see there is setting for Candian Dividend income vs Non-Canadian Dividend income. However there is not way to put int if my Equity are 90% Canadian/10%US? or us 10% US / 90% Canadian.

Or there is a way and I just don't know how.

How to do 2 change in Adviice. 1). Avoid selling investment in Non-registered, 2). Max after tax estate

I wonder how to do those:

1). It show I will be selling investment in my non-registered account eve I have VERY BIG RRSP. How do I avoid the plan based on selling investment inside Non-registered (Which trigger captical gain). Basically withdraw from RRSP/RRIF to fill the income gap between dividend/interesting income and expenses.

I feel mixing Dividend / Growth into one return is difficult to model if I don't want to sell anything, just use RRIF withdraw + Dividend payout to fund my retirement.

2). Is there a setting to do "Maximize AFTER tax estate amount"? I am thinking if at the end Maximize AFTER tax estate amount, it mean I pay LEAST amount of combine Income tax during my retirement AND estate tax? As long as the plan can fullfill my retirement expenses, this would be the best outcome because is most money keep in our family, least amount go to CRA. Am I right?

Feature request: Show RRSP vs LIRA vs TFSA seperately

I notice in Planning section it show non-registered account balance and Registered account balance.

I "think" the registered account included RRSP/RRIF, LIRA, TFSA into one big Registered account.

Is there any way to show them seperately?

How income from "Non-Registered account" are calculated

I see once I retire, it show me I have $x of dollar from non-registered account as my income and $Y of dollar from RRSP.

The RRSP part is easy to understand, it is RRSP withdraw. However what is inside that non-registered account?

Is it just matter of withdraw from non-registered account, no matter it is taking out Interest / dividend or sell investment holding?

How to enter Group RRSP / DCPP in Deduction section

I am new to Advicce, trying to enter data but have some question.

1). In Payroll deduction, do I enter Group RRSP / DCPP deduction as Pension Contributions?

2). Both myself and wife have employer matching. Do we have to enter them anywhere?

3). I see section to enter Gross income, deduction and Net Income. Is the Net income part just to match Gross income - Deduction = Net Income?
