Landlord heat treated
VENT: So, my landlord let a homeless man move in to an apartment in the basement of our building and he brought in bed bugs. Yeah, let a homeless man live in your building, what could possibly go wrong? He said he did it because he knew the guy from HIGH SCHOOL and wanted to help him. So, this 'help' has ruined my life.
First he tried to blame my roommate for it. But we have been here for 7 years and never had an issue, nor anyone else in the building. Turns out the guys belongings and mattress were the worst kind of infested, and Terminix said it was one of the worst cases they had seen.
FF, he did everything wrong. Had the homeless guy pull the mattress out into the YARD (!!) and a bunch of his crap, which SPREAD THEM all over the unit. Long story short, he had to heat treat the whole building. I saw one living one that same day when we came back to deal with all of our stuff that was in disarray from prepping for the heat treatment. This has been a nightmare. We had them come back and spray the house and I pulled the exterminator aside and had him spray the shit out of several pieces of antique furniture that are massively expensive. We are livid that he allowed a homeless man live in this building, more livid that he tried to blame us for it KNOWING that this guy had bedbugs. He said 'I checked, and I saw zero bedbugs', a day later Terminix says its one of the worst infestations they have ever seen, so, he was trying to get my roommate to foot the bill I'm sure. So effed up. Like, why lie? Just own it and then deal with it. But nope, leave it to a landlord to let a vagrant move in to a building, then blame the tenants who have been here for almost a decade with no issues for infesting it with bedbugs.
So now my life is going to be crossfiring and laying down Cimexa regularly for the next few months, then taking my furniture out and putting it in storage once I KNOW they are gone so that if that homeless man brings more of his squalor around, at least I won't have any furniture here for him to ruin. I don't get landlords. Just, why lie? Why try to pin it on us? He literally had a man who lived in a cardbox IN DOWNTOWN L.A. move in, then had the nerve to blame us? That is beyond shady. It's callous, unconscionable, audacious and enraging.
BTW, this is a mental nightmare. Every tickle and I'm freaking out that it's bedbugs. I wake up several times a night to flick on the lights to see if I can catch any of them on my bed. Total nightmare.
