Building a community-made Mass Shooting Megalist
Hello Reddit! If you’ve seen my post history here, you’ll see I've compiled a comprehensive list documenting every US mass shooting from 1900 to today.
I originally wanted to cover every mass shooting worldwide since 1900, but realized it's too ambitious alone. Thanks to your positive feedback on the US list, I’m inviting you to help build this global resource. My (and hopefully soon to be our) goal is to create a publicly accessible, accurate database that can serve as a research tool, a reference for journalists, policymakers, and the public, and help foster informed discussions about mass violence around the world. I will coordinate and oversee the project, reviewing all submitted entries to ensure accuracy and consistency. Everyone who contributes will be credited by name (or username, if preferred) in the final compiled database. Let’s make an invaluable record together. Here’s how you can join:
To participate, first choose a country from the list where at least one mass shooting has taken place. Comment below to claim your country before you begin, so everyone knows who is working on each one. Only one person should work on any country unless you agree to collaborate. If you want to collaborate, reply to someone else’s comment or create a new comment to find partners interested in the same country. Once you have a team, introduce your collaborators in a comment thread and discuss how you would like to split tasks (e.g., by time periods, regions, or incident types). Please clearly state who is on your team in the comments, and briefly outline how you are dividing the work. This helps us avoid duplicate work and keeps efforts coordinated. If two people want to work on the same country but cannot agree to collaborate, priority will go to the person who commented first, and the second person should select another country. Please be respectful of others' claims to avoid confusion or disputes.
The initial countries include:
Britain,
Australia,
France,
Germany,
Finland,
Norway,
Switzerland,
Canada,
Austria,
Czech Republic,
Netherlands,
Belgum,
New Zealand,
Slovakia
Russia
Yemen
Uganda
The Philippines
But more can be added!
Next, after selecting a country and confirming that no one else is doing it, open a Google Sheet and start entering the entries. Each entry should be a row and formatted like this:
Once you have completed your Google Sheet for a country, please share the file by sending the link via direct message on Reddit. If you prefer, you can also share the Google Sheet in a dedicated shared folder. To request access to the shared folder, simply send me a direct message mentioning your interest. I will then provide you with access details and instructions. This will help keep all submissions organized and accessible for review and compilation.
NAME/AGE DATE/PLACE LOCATION FATALITIES INJURIES WEAPON MODEL
To go into more detail on the categories, here’s an expanded explanation for each field:
- NAME/AGE: List the full name of the perpetrator then place a dash and indicate the perpetrator’s age. If age is unknown, use a question mark. Example: John Doe- 34.
- DATE/PLACE: Enter the date in Month/Day/Year format (e.g., 03/15/2019), followed by the town or city, and then the initials of the province, state, or region. If the event spanned multiple days or locations, note the primary date and place, and mention additional details in a separate notes column if possible.
- LOCATION: Specify the exact type of site where the incident occurred (e.g., school, workplace, shopping, religious, street, spree). Please note that the killing of family at home before going on to commit the massacre does NOT make it a spree.
- FATALITIES: Record the number of people killed during the incident, including the perpetrator if they are deceased. If there are conflicting reports, use the most widely accepted figure.
- INJURIES: Specify the number of people injured, including the perpetrator, unless they are fatalities. Count injuries that turn fatal AFTER the attack as Fatalities as well.
- WEAPON MODEL: List the make and model of the primary weapon(s) used. If unknown, write the caliber FOLLOWED by the weapon type (e.g., .20-caliber semIautomatic rifle, 9mm handgun, 12-gauge pump-action shotgun)
WHAT CONSTITUTES A MASS SHOOTING FOR THIS PROJECT?
A mass shooting for this project is an event where at least one person is killed, and one is injured in an unprovoked attack by an individual or individuals not specifically affiliated with a government, with the primary weapon being a firearm. Alternatively, if the media or law enforcement classify an event as a mass shooting regardless of affiliation with a terrorist group, it can be included (for example, the Charlie Hebdo shooting qualifies, but the Kent State Massacre does not).
To clarify ambiguous cases: If an incident involves a mix of weapons but firearms are the primary means of causing harm, you can include it in your list, but please note any additional weapons, such as explosives or blades, used alongside firearms. If you are unsure whether a case fits due to unclear reports about government involvement or classification, briefly explain the ambiguity in the comments so others here can help decide whether it qualifies as a mass shooting. When there is disagreement or a decision cannot be reached through discussion in the comments, I will review the case and make a final decision, taking into account the criteria, available evidence, and community input. This way, we can keep the database consistent and resolve disputed cases fairly and efficiently.
Well at least they’re honest

Why is Israel always involved in conspiracies or seen as a secret superpower?
now id like to quickly add that I do NOT support the state of Israel and their actions in Gaza and Iran, nor do I believe that anti-Zionism and antisemitism are different but I can’t help but think that a lot of the conspiracy theories that have Israel in the forefront are less based in condemning Israel and more so condemning Jewish people in general

What would have happened if UA175 hadn’t hit at that awkward angle?
I mean, the reason for the south tower’s early collapse was due to the angle UA175 hit and then the north tower fell partially from the damage of the south tower’s collapse so if it hadn’t, would the towers had fallen later? would they have fallen? would more people had been save? or would more people have died?
As I stated in my previous post, I am compiling a HUGE timeline of the hijackers’ actions in the US leading up to the attack. After my previous post on this subreddit about my theory, I received many comments that actually convinced me that I was wrong. I’d like to thank those commenters for helping me see the logic, because for some reason I was just being an idiot back there. as a peace offering to this subreddit. Please take this itemized timeline of The Hijackers at the airports on the day of the attack. Once again, I'd like to retract my previous theory.

hello fellow Redditors, as someone who researches mass killings a ton I've noticed there hasn’t been a compressive list of mass shootings in the US (mother jones’ list is good but is missing some shootings and lacks details in some entries) so I’m making a MASSIVE list of EVERY mass shooting in the US purely for research purposes.
so far I’ve finished the 20th century so please leave any comments if you notice errors, missed shooting, or suggestions for additional categories and I’ll be sure to fix it While I continue to the 21st century.
