BETTY ONG

Does anybody else get super frustrated hearing how clear Betty sounded on the telephone especially the part where the dispatcher seems like.. uh annoyed in the in the beginning. I know hindsight is 51/50. It's just the dispatcher sounds like so many other people that work on the phone, bothered. Idk it's just something that's been in my mind lately

What was your first source of information when 9/11 took place?

How did you come to know? Did you receive any calls from your loved ones from the towers while it happened or do you have anyone who escaped it?

What was the week of 9/11 like, after the attacks happened?

What was the week of 9/11 like, but after the attacks happened. Like Wednesday-Saturday.

I am 16, so not alive for 9/11, but just want to know what it was like. Did it feel like the rest of the week took a year to go by? Did it go by fast since so many people were warning updates in the TV?

Did the rest of the week feel heavy? Like profound sadness all the time?

From my perspective, I feel like the week would have felt like a whole year, same with the rest of September.

Survivor forums?

In the book "The only plane in the sky", there is mention of forums that the survivors would go to to see who made it out of the towers. Are these forums backed up anywhere?

James Martello moved into his dream home in 8/2001. The home is close to water and he planned on teaching his young sons to fish & water ski. But those plans vanished on 9/11. His wife said, "The boys don't understand. They want to know why he had to go to work that day; why there are bad people."

The search for Steve Shoenholt (happy ending)

During the chaos of the terrorist attacks, ABC News correspondent John Quiñones was reporting on the street, interviewing a distraught family frantically looking for Steve Shoenholt. Steve ran a delicatessen inside one of the World Trade Center towers and had called his wife earlier to say the building was being evacuated. However, communication cut off, and his family feared the worst as the towers collapsed. While the mother and wife was making another desperate phone call to try and find Steve, the daughter screams out of nowhere "Daddy!!!" and Steve by the grace of God appears. This is definitely one of the happier stories from 9/11

Not sure if anyone finds this interesting, but I do.

I want to preface this by saying I was born after the tragic events and that I was also born in Canada. Recently, I spoke to my father who was a pilot during the 9/11 attacks. He has been a airline pilot since 2004, however before that he was a bush plane pilot, flying police officers and government officials up to Native American reserves in Northern Ontario.

I asked him if he recalls the day of September 11, 2001. He said he does and he was in fact working that day when he was flying a bunch of officers up to Duck Lake (I believe) he was radioed by Air Traffic control and they stated that the World Trade Centre is in New York have been attacked and that all aircraft’s in North American airspace were ordered to land and be grounded for the foreseeable future.

He did as he was told and landed his plane at Duck Lake where he was able to drop off his crew. However he was instructed by someone who caught ear of the fact since he was flying government hired individuals, he was permitted to use the airspace.

my father took off and went to fly to Bear Lake (I believe,) another lake in Northern Ontario. He got radioed by an American Air Traffic control which never happens considering his line of work rarely crossed the border. The man on the radio stated “GrizzlyBear-(call sign I can’t remember), I hope you know that you are the only other aircraft that is permitted to fly in the entirety of North America Right Now.”

He said the feeling of seeing an empty radar and completely empty airspace as far as he could see was surreal. He’s always had a way with words, and he said it felt like the sky was grieving. He’s never experienced an eerie feeling like he felt the day that North American aviation fell silent.

Of course everyone knows that the only other plane permitted to fly other than military planes was an aircraft delivering medicine to a man that was bitten by a snake. However I cannot find any records of my father’s plane in any logs. Then again I’m not good with archives and all that jazz. He said he was asked a few questions by a guy that posted a blog post or something on a forum page however I couldn’t find that either. It’d be cool to see some sort of record of my fathers plane flying that day so if anyone could find anything that would be sweet.

If not I hope you enjoyed this little story of how it felt to be a pilot that day.

CBS News veteran anchor & reporter Daniel Rather crying on David Letterman

On September 17, 2001, David Letterman came back on air after his show was suspended during the 24-hour news cycle. The guest was CBS News anchor Dan Rather, and Regis Philbin. After 6 straight days of Rather covering the attacks, and only sleeping for limited hour at a time not getting time to reflect on his own, he broke down quoting the song "American the Beautiful"

Now, Rather is 94 and is known as one of the greatest reporters of all time. God, I miss him at CBS News... what a shit show CBS News is now.
