Views as close to 69 Gold St as possible

My father was on the roof of my building (69 Gold St) at the time, he witnessed everything. He was close enough that he could feel the heat from that second plane. This experience caused him to go through a downward spiral that ended up destroying him. I’ve been wanting to find photos/videos that are as close to what his point of view was, and if possible, to see him on that rooftop at the time. It’s one of the reason why I search and endlessly archive everything I can find on 9/11, I want to understand what ruined such an amazing person. His description of that day is unlike anything I’ve heard, and the consequences of this experience became horrifying for my family as he sought an escape from reality.

Which song pops off your mind that takes you straight to 9/11?

I'm asking all the people who were old enough to live 9/11. Which song comes to your mind that takes you straight to that day, without even thinking or realising? A pop hit from that period ? A song that became popular in the aftermath ? I was 3 yo when 9-11 happened and I'm not american so I'm genuinely curious.

Another question : how long did it take for new Yorkers to go back to having parties , going to the club etc and what was the vibe there?

Guns in the WTC

Please forgive my ignorance, I live the other side of the world, but I just have a quick question about firearms and 9/11.

I know that America has famously liberal gun laws and many people carry weapons habitually, but I think it can also vary from one state to the next?

Is there any chance regular workers could have carried weapons with them into work that day? Or would either NY state law, or the WTC security policy, not have allowed it?

I was wondering whether some people may have chosen to end their own life with a weapon, rather than out the window, when the burning was getting too much?

9/11 perpetrators & use of 'Enhanced Interrogation Techniques' on them.

As of writing this post, the perpetrators of 9/11 are in US custody, but haven't being charged with anything i.e. not bought in front of Court to be officially charged for the crimes they committed.

The reason for this - Use of "Enhanced Interrogation Techniques" aka Torture on the perpetrators.

Now you may say, the crimes the perpetrators did were so heinous that they shouldn't deserve any say about how the they were treated after they were arrested, but removing of human rights is not the way it should have happened.

Bush Admin & subsequent administrations muddied the waters for prosecuting the perpetrators by using the "Enhanced Interrogation Techniques" on them.

Use of such techniques was just a way to express anger on those perpetrators with no insight of the future i.e. thinking about today's revenge rather than future prosecution.

The families of victims will never get justice until the perpetrators die due to natural causes & not because they were given the Death Penalty for committing the world's deadliest terror attack.

The perpetrators now remain in a lingo. Can't be prosecuted due to evidence against them was obtained by use of Torture ; Can't be released as no government official wants to be the one who lets the perpetrators be free

But the only people who suffer for this are the families of victims who will never see the perpetrators bought to justice.

WTC Basement level floor plans - Elevation version

Intro

This is the second version of the WTC basement level floor plans I made a while back. For full sourcing and other information on the plans themselves please see the first post. For this version I chose to emphasize the elevation differences within the levels.

This should make it more clear how some levels had different elevations, which parts spanned multiple levels, and where ramps go.

General notes

  • This is a 'best effort' attempt prone to error because for most levels, detailed information, especially on elevation, is scarse or absent. I tried to figure out nuances as best as possible, but many assumptions were made, though I will detail these below as well as possible. Things like walls also make it difficult sometimes to really define the border between two elevations. Treat this set as something to give a general impression and not 100% how it was please.
  • A legend was added on the left that shows the colour codings that go with each elevation that was drawn in. Numbers are elevations in feet.
  • Ramps are especially better noticeable through both added text and arrows, as well as colour gradients which make it very clear whether they go up or down and where.
  • For most multilevel rooms or spaces, the colour coding of the floor elevation was used. The only exception to this rule was the heightened ceiling of the Path mezzanine which on B2 was shaded 290/orange to make it more clear the ceiling is at that elevation and it is not an open hole looking down on the mezzanine itself. Bit arbitrary I know.

Level-specific notes

  • Plaza and Concourse
    • I've left these untouched because they speak more for themselves, are better known, and simply have few elevation differences that are noteworthy. Also, my personal focus is more on the B1 - B6 levels.
  • B1
    • I've put the least effort into this one as the source floor plan is the lowest quality I have. When I get a better version that will be updated
    • Some transitions from the 290 to 294 level for the West loading dock area are not really clear. Per the above points, any ramps can be added in better versions.
    • East loading dock sits inbetween B1 and B2. As I finished B2 first, I copied most of the colouring from B2 east to B1. Bit sloppy in places, sufficient for now.
    • Didn't touch the old Cortlandt subway station which is only visible on B1's floor plan.
  • B2
    • By far the best source floor plan so pretty confident about this one, at least the west side.
    • Floor underneath west loading dock on B1 is lowered here as well from 284 to 279.
    • Some ramps and parts of the east loading dock area were, even though the source was extremely high quality, different to read in terms of where exactly elevations and ramps extended to or which wall separated one elevation from another. I've made a best guess here.
    • For Path mezzanine part see General Notes
  • B3
    • Added in the Data port level underneath the east loading dock, same as with the v1.2 single colour updated edition.
    • Exact area of the Path mezzanine might be off, but this seemed reasonable.
  • Refrigeration room
    • One of few multilevel spaces in the plans, this one goes from B3 all the way down to B6.
    • Ive wrestled a bit with how to colour code this area. From what I can gather, there are to main floors on B4 and B6 which both extend upwards two floors. I chose to colour code them for these two levels, so B4 yellow on B3 and B6 purple on B5.
    • I can see the stairs and galleries and partial openings, but without any further detailed elevation data I felt the single colour approach was best for now. Will update in light of new data.
  • B4
    • By far the simplest level as everything except the ramps seem to be on the same elevation.
    • Also here added back in the Data port part from the original source plans. (Also reflected in the updated single coplour versions v1.2)
  • B5
    • For both B5 and B6 a large separation in elevation seems to be caused by the Path train station and track areas, which appear to be slightly raised above B6 at 245-ish elevation.
    • I've decided to group the 250-253 elevation in B5 and anything below in B6, which makes sense as the Path patforms at el. 250 are shown on this floor plan.
    • For the Path station/track area, I assumed the very big line drawn along the inside separated the elevations.
    • Assumed the extent of the platforms as best as possible based on information on the map such as the few descriptions on it and things like the locations of stairs and doors.
    • Outside of the platforms I've put the rest of the Path area at elevation 245 as I lack any and all information to make better guesses here.
    • One part that I think is wrong is the elevation inside the WTC 1 and 2 tower area, which might actually be (in part) at the B6 level.
  • B6
    • Not much to say here, same approach with the Path area as for B5.

Help me find the people who recorded this.

The first video is from a YouTube channel called Sept11VideoArchival (@SeptemberEleven2001) titled "Unknown Up-Close 9/11 Footage Snippets from Old News Broadcast"

I think I have seen a similar video before but cant recall where.

The last one is from a YouTube compilation titled: [Read Desc] Rare 9/11 Media (Photos & Videos)

If there is anyone who can analyze this further than I can please do, I don't have the knowledge and resources to how this process is best handled if it would turn out to be unknown Footage.

Has anyone ever created a map or drawing that shows where the photographers were standing, as they took pictures of the people in the broken windows of the WTC?

Or alternatively, has anyone ever created maps or drawings showing where people were standing at broken windows, before the towers fell? Trying to wrap my head around the geography of that.

Separately I’m curious how many (if any) of the people at the windows have ever been identified?
