Serious question...

HOW are people affording more than one kid in today's world with the way the economy is going? My husband and I make decent salaries, probably almost 200k combined and we live in NYC. Our co-op mortgage is only 1k a month (bought during COVID). We live comfortably with our one and are very happy. We can afford all the extra curriculars without batting an eye. Vacations are another story... we just feel they are not worth it for the prices today ($5000 for a week? No thank you). We would rather take day trips to the zoo or pack a picnic in the park. BUT, seriously, are people just spending every last dime to keep up with the Jones'? Because that is wild....the things I see on social media blow my mind. I wound up just deleting it. I know some of these people and they probably make the same as my husband and I. As decent as our salary is, a house is out of the question right now with the prices and rates, but people are out there buying, having second kids, third kids, taking vacations, doing expensive renovations to their homes even though their cherry cabinets were beautiful (but everyone wants those white kitchens nowadays), etc...
