Help Setting Up Mics for My Desk Setup

My GF and I sit in an L-shape in a corner, with my desk against one wall and hers against another. We like to play games together and both want to be able to talk, but we struggle to do so because of how our mics are.

If both our mics are on, I get picked up on both and have an echo of my own voice (I tend to get rowdier than her). If only one of ours is on, the other person only gets heard about 30% of the time. We are also kind of on a budget (less than $500 for the whole setup combined ideally). Her computer also has issues if there are too many USBs plugged in and mine doesn't have an audio jack.

Is there any solution to this? We looked into things like shotgun mics, but I simply do not know enough to know if this would work. Any suggestions?
