I'm the problem

Listeners said my audio sounds bad (one even said "get a better mic, the mic on a pair of airpods would work" (sob)). I know it can't be the mic so it's gotta be something I'm doing.

Hardware: Shure SM7B, Triton fethead, Audient id4

Software: OBS > Audacity > Davinci Resolve

Process is 1) recording audio in OBS, converting it to .wav in Davinci (since OBS outputs video too).

  1. Opening in Audacity to edit (Noise Reduction > Loudness Normalization > Graphic EQ Low Rolloff for Speech > Limiter). Exporting as .wav

  2. Inserting into video in Davinci and applying final volume boost if needed.

If anyone can recommend a better process/specific filter values/and or software, or even an understandable tutorial youtube video, I'd be grateful. Pieced together this setup and process from various forums and YT video tutorials but obviously I'm not doing something right.

Maybe there's some recording interface that's better than OBS for audio. I have Cakewalk downloaded too but the interface is overwhelming idk where to even start and different sources keep telling me different things about them.

The worst part is my editing process is very time consuming and I comb through it painstakingly editing out saliva sounds and breaths to make it the best it can so it sucks that it doesn't result in listenable audio (it sounds somewhat decent to me through both my earbuds and wired earbuds but maybe I just listen to it so much while editing I acclimate to it). Any help appreciated thanks

Audio advice for a short film

I'm making my first short film soon, and I have everything prepared except for a mic. My budget is small, so I don't entirely know which corners to cut. Should I have my mic attached to my camera, or should I invest in a boom setup? I'm also planning on having one far shot, where I'm okay with the dialogue sounding far away, but would I need to still have a mic close to the actors to achieve this and to maintain clear audio? Is there anything else important I'd need to know when making sure my audio is good?

Looking for a microphone to use with an external push to talk feature (cough button?)

For context; me and my housemate play games irl every weekend over Discord. Our set up is two laptops on the dinner table with a shared mic. One of us will plug in an external mic, the other will mute his (laptop) mic. No issues there.

We recently got a new housemate who works odd hours so they will often be cooking while we play. Even with the Discord feature of only detecting voices, it will pick up cabinets closing, doors etc.. it also more often than not cuts our voices as we chat.

Is there a microphone with a built in push to talk feature so we can just push the button when we need to talk. The reason why it needs to be external as opposed to the Discord feature is because if my friend wants to chat, he can't constantly ask me to hold down my keyboard key until he's finished and vice versa.

No audio output

Hey guys, so I recently found my old PS3 and when I went to play on it, realized my monitor doesn’t have any audio output or a jack. HDMI’s obviously handling video fine but I’m not getting any sound.
Is there a cheap/easy way to get audio out of this thing? I saw the PS3 has a separate optical digital out port on the back so does that work for getting sound to regular speakers or headphones, or do I need something specific for it?
Any recommendations appreciated, trying not to overspend on this lol.

Help Setting Up Mics for My Desk Setup

My GF and I sit in an L-shape in a corner, with my desk against one wall and hers against another. We like to play games together and both want to be able to talk, but we struggle to do so because of how our mics are.

If both our mics are on, I get picked up on both and have an echo of my own voice (I tend to get rowdier than her). If only one of ours is on, the other person only gets heard about 30% of the time. We are also kind of on a budget (less than $500 for the whole setup combined ideally). Her computer also has issues if there are too many USBs plugged in and mine doesn't have an audio jack.

Is there any solution to this? We looked into things like shotgun mics, but I simply do not know enough to know if this would work. Any suggestions?

Buzzing noise coming from PreSonus Eris 3.5BT speakers.

Hello.

Just recently I bought a pair of PreSonus Eris 3.5BT speakers for my Mac mini M2 Pro. When I use the Bluetooth mode, the audio comes cleanly through the speakers. But when I plug the speakers into my computer using the dual RCA cable, any time audio is played on my computer, a high pitched hissing noise comes through the speakers and remains for a several seconds afterward.

I tired changing the audio format in the Audio MIDI Setup, and that seemed to work, but there is a slight audio delay since it doesn't match the format of the PreSonus Eris 3.5BT which appears to be 32bit.

I searched up what the issue might be and found that it is potentially a Ground Loop issue, but wasn't sure if that is entirely true, because reading into what a ground loop issue is, it doesn't seem like that is the issue I'm experiencing.

If the issue is related to a ground loop, what would be the best ground loop isolator to buy? I have no audio setup and just want to plug the speakers directly into my computers headphone jack port. Thanks!

SSL 2 MKii replacement cable

Bought a new SSL 2 MKii on Ebay and for some reason it came with a USB-C to USB-B cable (the one for printers AFAIK). I've tried 4-5 different USB-C to USB-C cables and I keep getting this error:
Power Surge on the USB port
Unknown USB Device needs more power than the port can supply.

I'm guessing the USB-C to USB-C or USB-A to USB-C cables I have don't work with the audio interface.

Any cable recommendations?

Thanks!

Very irritating and unknown sound coming from both speakers, besides ordinary volume buzz.

I recently moved back home and setup my Hi-Fi system again, I've had it a number of years. I replaced my old speaker wire with new as it didn't reach the speakers. Since being setup I have began to hear this very odd, almost cricket or cicada-like noise coming from (I think) the top part of both of them - I'm wondering if anyone knows where this could stem from? It quietens down a little on other inputs but is there on all whether they are connected or not. Maybe the new wire? - it was pretty cheap and perhaps wasn't setup properly (few lost fibers, rubber part interfering?). I tried removing dust from the speakers and inputs before setting them up, maybe it's dust? Or damage to the actual speakers? But it sounds identical on both. I'm thinking it must be the amp or wire but why all of a sudden. Any help would be great!

2ohm JL 12w6 as home stereo subwoofer.

I'm looking for an amp to power a subwoofer. It's a dual voice coil JL 12w6. power range: 200-600 watts RMS. I need a home amp to push it that will be stable at 2ohm. Anyone have recommendations? Budget is under $300 for the amp. Preferably less.

Suggest changes to my home audio

I’m thinking the speakers are the problem.

The rokit 8s are nice but they’re not ideal for the space. By the time it’s loud enough my neighbors hate me. I usually use tv buitin audio.

It’s a big rectangular room.

Flexible budget.

What do?

Pneumatic headphones! for MRI, how do they work?

Hi, got my first MRI yesterday. They asked what music I wanted to listen and put these on my head. Obviously the sound is crappy, but it got me curious: how do they work? A normal small speaker outside the MRI range send the sound inside the tubes ? Or is there another membrane in the headphones?

Are there other application for that kind of thing?

could ADAT be extended over to rg6

I'm trying to get an ADAT signal to a distant area. The only connection between the 2 areas is RG6. I would much rather not run A long as hell cable, but if I do it'll be a CAT6 cable for future flexibility with an apsyss ADAT extender.

Looking for advice on deciding on a impermenant PA system.

Sorry if this isn’t the right subreddit.

I work at a summer camp and the goal is to communicate with 400 excited campers all at once via wireless microphone. We have an okay budget and are planning to buy at least JBL quality.

A four piece speaker setup would be ideal.

Some kind of wireless is a necessity.

We need it quickly, so a week delivery time or pickup from a store will work best.

I have included a picture of the kind of thing we think will be good, but i’m also not sure if I can add speakers to this setup.

Any education or suggestions will be appreciated 🙏🏻

Best large portable speakers (that sounds like speakers that use an amp)

My husband is obsessed with speakers that require amps. They take up far too much room and require way too many chords and cables. He’s trying to hook up some amps inside our living room, drill a hole through our house to put outdoor speakers on the patio.

I think it’s much more practical to just have a large portable speaker that we can charge inside and take outside when we want to use it. He tells me I have no idea what good music sounds like through a good speaker.

To prove him wrong what is the best portable speaker?

Beyerdynamic PRO X USB-C cable microphone suddenly started making “scratchy/static” noise

Hi everyone,

I’m using the Beyerdynamic PRO X USB-C cable with the built-in microphone. On the first day, the microphone sounded clean, even with the Windows input volume set to 100%.

Today, without unplugging the cable or changing anything physically, the microphone suddenly started making a scratchy/static noise, almost like a “scrubbing sponge” or electrical noise.

Important details:

- The headphones/playback sound is still perfectly clean.

- The noise is only on the microphone input.

- It happens in Adobe Audition and also when recording through Chrome/browser, so it does not seem to be only an Audition problem.

- I tested a clean recording with no effects, no compressor, no limiter, no normalize, and the noise is still there.

- The noise seems to get louder when I speak, then goes down when I stop speaking.

- Restarting Windows did not fix it.

- The recording is set to 48 kHz.

- In Adobe Audition, DC Offset shows 0.00%, and there is no clipping.

- It worked fine on the first day, so I’m confused why it suddenly started.

Has anyone experienced something similar with USB-C microphones or the Beyerdynamic PRO X USB-C cable?

Simple recording here

Good home speakers for music with good bass

I need a speaker system budget is $1000-$2000 but anything lower would be nice too. My partner was looking at the harmony audio subwoofers but i've been trying to convince him to get proper home audio systems. We want something with quite a bit of bass and good quality audio for music, preferably something with bluetooth but i dont mind a wired system. I've been eyeing the Edifier S350DB Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers with Subwoofer or the Klipsch The Nines Powered stereo speakers with Bluetooth

I would want them to be loud and bassy especially when my neighbour is drunk and blasting his music at 2am on a Monday. Thanks for any help!
