I am in COTE - Episode #2
Feel free to ignore this helpful info - TLDR: Origin + Lmk wht u think
I was bored and decided that I am going to portray myself in COTE as high schooler. I was using character AI's one but it's really not that good, so I am going to do it myself using dice and a few conventional methods. This will follow the same plotline. All characters will be in. Honestly, I don't know if I want to follow the Light Novel or Manga. If this does well then let me know what scenarios you want emphasized or what you want to see and I'll cater to that! I want you guys to add to the story, stuff like my name! But if you're looking for some edgy emo thing, I'm not that good of a writer 😭 Enjoy!

The Dark Side of Paradise
In just a few short weeks, this new stage of life has become second nature. Wake up, walk to class, and chill. I also work as a club aide, which is exactly how it's spelled. Afterschool, I head to the student council room and view the tasks on the club board, if any. If there's any help needed, I head over and assist. I've been pretty lax with it though, some tasks, like being a practice jockey for the Basketball Team, I just ignore and leave to some other poor fellow. Getting slammed by Sudo once was enough. He's found his peace with basketball, and it's not just him. Nearly everyone has adjusted and made a club or certain activity their home.
A rather loud throat clearing interrupts my thoughts. Chabashira announces a mock exam. This is my first time hearing about it.....
The exam isn't too bad, it's mostly like the entrance exam. I did well on that, and I think I did well on this one. I glanced around a couple times, and a few people were struggling.
After the exam, I decide to spend lunchtime as a club aide. I see a request from the librarian on the club board, so I go to the Library Club. The librarian leads me to a cart full of books and hands me a paper explaining the Dewey Decimal System. She asks me to sort the books accordingly.....
"Well, better get started"
I start shelving the books. Most of them academic, but a few less serious books. Makes sense, you wouldn't really come here for fun..
As I go to put away a mystery novel, I see a girl struggling to reach a novel. I watch her struggle for a bit, then I walk over and grab it.
"Thanks....What class are you in?"
"Class D"
*I hand it to her*
"Thank you"
She reminds me of Emilia from Re-Zero.
"Well, Nice to meet you"
*We further exchange pleasantries.
New Character Profile
Hiyori Shiina: Kawaii Emilia-Chan. Quiet personality.
She seems so serene that I find myself wanting to stay and talk, but I've got work to do. I impart a "later, gator" in the middle of her rambling about novels and continue on my way.*
*After a bit more shelving, the bell rings. Lunch passed by fast. The librarian thanks me, and I promise to come back tomorrow*
Class is normal, or, in the logical sense, abnormal as usual*.* Our teachers come in and ramble without fail. Discipline/Structure has no place within our class walls. There's no reprimanding, and so plenty just don't care. Skipping, Sleeping, Talking, Phone Usage. It leaves a bad feeling. For such an esteemed school, why would they allow this? A few hesitate to commit any wrongdoings.
The Truth
The next morning, I come into class, stopping to grab a snack bar from a vending machine, and every seat is filled. Strange. I expected more absences.
Everyone's glued to their phones. Today was the day we were all supposed to receive another 100K points. It's pretty exciting. I still had about half of last month's, but with another batch I'd be able to play games more frequently.
As I sit down next to Ayanokoji, I hear him muttering to Horikita about not getting any points. I glance and, he still has 80,000 left. And here I thought I was a conservationist. Anyways, the lack of points is a bigger issue, as many students are starting to grow agitated.
Then, Chabashira walks in with a smug sort of look. Instantly, students ask about points this and points that. Chabashira reveals that every last point has already been given, with the revelation that we all were to be given 0. Citing our classes poor behavior and general shittiness, she makes it clear we know our worthlessness. Then, with an even smugger look, if that's even possible, she takes out our mock exam test scores.
Straight garbage. Plenty of D's and F's. I got a C, which I personally feel is normal, but whatevs. Then she lets us know that were this a real test, seven would've failed, and that failing midterms or finals = expulsion. Well that's a new discovery. At my middle school, they'd simply just keep you during the summer, but then again, this is the one and only ANHS.....
By this point, plenty of students are stuck in suspended horror, but Chabashira keeps coming. the hierarchal system of the Classes, with us being in the lowest, and Class A being the favorable class who are the only ones to receive the 100% post-grad opportunity/employment.
Class A,huh?....Is this a ploy to make us hate those who already are in class A? Because it sure looks like it. But my thoughts hold no power in the court of the victors.
Chabashira leaves us, but not before telling us about a midterm in three weeks.
As soon as she leaves, the somewhat quiet, shell shocked class erupts into pandemonium. Quarrellings, blaming, the works. Kushida can barely form the words in her mouth:
"So how am I supposed to live for the next month without any points!"
"There's a free meal option in the cafeteria. It's not as good, but it'll do"
I don't know if my reassurance will help, but she doesn't mention it again. Afterwards I go back to my seat and listen to Koji and Horikita's conversation. They start discussing wtf just happened and potential ways to mediate the behaviors. At one point, Horikita turns and asks me if there's anything I'd like to add. I decline.
Afterschool, I go back to the library to help out the librarian. It's like the cart of books nearly doubled, but the DDS is burned into my memory and I'm much faster at shelving. The librarian remarks at my improvement, and I thank her.
About half an hour into pacing and shelving around the library, I bump into Hiyori at a corner. Her hair stops just under my nose, and I catch a whiff of the almond and honey shampoo she must use. Before she can talk, I remember what Chabashira told us about classes.
"What class are you in?"
"Class C, Why?"
"No...reason"
She doesn't seem convinced. Mom always did say I was a bad liar.
"Could it be that...you feel oppositional to the other classes?"
*This girl's sharp and intuitive, to a point. it's not like I hate them, it's just that I feel more weary.*
"No, that's not it. I guess it's just cause I like to organize things. Just like these books here. I actually just finished reading this series by James Patterson. *holding up an Alex Cross trio triology*, so I thought I'd return them alongside these other books."
*It's like a lightbulb flipped in her head,*
"I love James Patterson: Alex Cross, Maximum Ride, oh my, I just can't seem to get enough of it. Do you frequently read mystery? What about The Silent Patient?"
"I just haven't gotten to it yet, Hiyori."
She seems much more vibrant and talkative.
*playfully making my voice sound pseudo-sophisticated.* "Well, Hiyori, I must finish my elephantine re-shelvements of this fine literature collection sitting on this cart. I must be going now"
"Yes,.. see you."
*I may have been joking, but I think my diction may have turned her on*
Class 1-D is much more well behaved. Everyone dares not even breathe wrong, with the exception of Sudo, and Koenji. Sudo seems to have grown more aggressive and hostile. Koenji is well...Koenji. Unapproachable and uncaring as ever. Oh well, not my circus nor my monkeys.
I decide to skip club aide work afterschool and study. Then I spend a few hours playing at the arcade. While most of the students in my class are struggling to get by, my 50,000 points are clearing the way. After an afternoon and semi-night of fun, I'm walking back to my dorm when I hear unintelligible talking. I glance around, no one's in sight. It's late and the streets are empty. It seems like it's coming from a narrow path near the the fence to the track. I briskly walk to the corner and see Manabu Horikita, and Suzune Horikita behind him. They don't appear to have seen me.....
Wait, HORIKITA? Are they...siblings? Horikita isn't that common of a name, but the way she's talking, it seems like she is.
"I came here to catch up with you"
"You were a fool to choose this school"
*Dang, her brother is relentless....Just like her. Guess it runs in the family*
"I'll reach Class A soon"
"Impossible"
Then he Kabedons her to the wall. Horikita looks shook. I've never seen her act this way. It's almost, comical in a sense. Even the Ice Queen fears fire. She's stammering and braces for impact when he proceeds to ready a blow.
Then Ayanokoji appears from the other side and grabs his wrist.
"You were really going to drive that in, weren't you? Let her go"
Manabu lets go, then just as soon aims a swift backfist at his cranium. Then a kick. Both narrowly miss. That would have hurt, but Ayanokoji is fast. I've never seen him act this way either.
"You move well. Do you practice something?"
"Piano and Caligraphy"
Manabu proceeds to reference a student who got a 50 in every subject on the entrance exam, and on the mock quiz. Koji dismisses it. Horikita looks in shock. I'm half in shock too, because wtf? Where'd this kid come from?
Manabu utters a few more words of strife and departs. He starts walking my way, and I make a mad, but quiet as can be dash towards my dorm. I take a long shower, and think about what I just witnessed. It seems that a lot of things go on under the shadows. Ayanokoji was very perceptive. Was he there by on purpose? Coincidence? I don't know.
He and Manabu are also good fighters. It makes me think. In cases like those, if someone is trying to fight you, what can you really do? There's no surveillance, and if I were to get injured, it's not like I could say anything without proof. The thought fills me with a sense of fear I haven't trained any martial art. The most violence I know is playing war, but even that's helpful. I should proably forge some weapons. There's also a boxing gym all the way at the far side of campus. Maybe I'll go.
The thoughts replay in mind a gazillion times as sleep slowly overtakes me.
The Midterm
The Midterm is approaching, I feel as if I've studied enough, but many others are quite anxious. Forming Study Groups seemed to have helped. Others...may have turned to more nefarious means.
By that I mean I saw Kushida and Ayanokoji shamelessly obtain test answers from an upperclassman. Sex appeal am I right? She's a demon, a demon with a pretty face. I'm just surprised nobody else has realized it yet.
Anyways, I've been trying to add more effectiveness to my day. I've started spending time at the boxing gym. It's mostly upperclassmen, though I did see a few 1st years, particularly Koenji. As usual, being Koenji, though he allows a few to hold his training bag. So far I've developed a workout plan and have just been getting in shape. Jump Rope, mountain climbers, bag sets, the runs. It's hard, but it's been fun.
I've been cutting down on gaming, but you definitely can't forget club aide work. It's always fun to get a request from the librarian and talk with Hiyori.
....
The Midterm. It struck fear into the hearts of many, and it wasn't even that bad. I passed, everyone passed, that is, except Sudo. I feared this would happen, he was off by just 1 point of the neccessary score needed to pass. It's almost laughable. Sudo looks crushed. Hey, I like basketball just as much as the next guy, but there's nothing anybody can do, it seems.
But, I was wrong, as Horikita and Ayanokoji leave the room and follow Chabashira. When they come back, they inform Sudo that his expulsion was rescinded. How, I don't know, but those two are really something....
