Impersonating Captain and Chief at Sheriff Office
Scammers at this number 614-665-3415 tried saying I had a warrant for my arrest because I did not show up to a grand jury summoning. They must’ve gone through old public records to find a place I had lived before and said someone had signed the grand jury summoning and that I was likely the victim of a crime. They said they were Captain Dan Johnson and Chief Hill from Franklin County Sheriff’s department. They were asking to get me to go to a bank and bring money to a “sheriff station” to stop me from being arrested. I tried to get more info out of them before they caught on that I knew it was a scam to try to help police. I asked them their callback number and they muttered nonsense about it being a federal DC generated number that I wouldn’t be able to call back on. Obviously, them asking for cash and the no call back number had me start traveling to the police station to try to be on the phone with them while I was there, but as soon as I said this is clearly illegal, they yelled a slur at me and hung up lol. They wanted to know how many miles were in my car gas tank, so I am worried about people who do actually take this seriously. I reported it to the federal fraud website, the Franklin county sheriff’s office, and my local police. Unfortunately, my local station said they don’t do much if you didn’t actually give them any info. It looks like the number is still available to call and it sounded like the scammer even made his voicemail the name of the police captain lol
