Worried new beardie parent, please reassure me everything's fine
This is our first bearded dragon, and so I'm not sure if I should be worried. Hopefully you all will tell me everything's fine.
We brought this little guy home yesterday. The shop estimates him to be about 4 months old, maybe a little younger.
Yesterday he spent most of his time hanging out on the basking rock, and some time on the branch once we added that. Today he has pretty much stayed glued to the branch with his eyes closed. This morning he ate a cricket and a roach, as well as a small piece of butternut squash (he ignored the greens). We bought the insects and "beardie salad" from the shop where we got him, so the food would be familiar to him.
He was uninterested in additional food this morning (about 10 hours ago), so we just now tried to entice him first with a cricket, and then with a roach, but he ignored both.
I measured his back temperature just now at 101.4F, and the branch surface near him at 96.4F. He is directly under the heat lamp; there is also a UVB tube and a full-spectrum bulb at that end of the tank.
It is cold outside today compared to yesterday, and has been raining all day; the ambient air temperature in the enclosure is currently 73F, about 3 degrees cooler than yesterday.
He was at the shop only a week before we brought him home, so he might just be a little stressed with being in a 2nd new place in such a short amount of time.
The guy at the shop said not to handle him for the first week to let him settle in, so we have left him alone other than trying to feed him.
The first three pictures are from today; the last picture is from yesterday to show how far away from the heat lamp the top of the branch is.
I hope you will reassure me to not be worried about how little he has eaten and how sedentary he's been all day.
Thanks!
