My best friend and I have been friends since I was 8 and she was 10 we were in the same performing arts group and became best friends. I love her to the moon and back. We are now 18 and 20 and still best friends. I love her a lot and will never lie to her.

But we live in the UK and at 16 she did level 2 performing arts in college. Then at 17 she started level 3 performing arts but became really depressed after being bullied at left. Since then shes not been in work or education. She does amateur dramatics performances but other than that shes just been in bed for the last 3 years crying.

On her 20th birthday I drove her home because she can’t drive and I don’t drink she was very drunk and said 20 is going to be the year for her. And that shes going to get her life back on track and follow her dreams of becoming a performer. I though this was just drunk talk and and asked her if she is planning on trying level 3 again which she said no shes going to audition for foundation years at drama schools and university’s because some of them allow people who don’t have the qualifications to apply to be inclusive.

I didn’t think she was serious and thought this was the alcohol talking and said thats great. Im glad shes got the motivation now. But she took it serious. At the end of Level 3 year 2 the college helped me apply for drama schools and uni’s. I told my friend about it. She said thats amazing. And that shes applying for some too. And asked which I applied for. I said the names and one of them which was Italia Conti she was applying for too for the foundation course.

I asked her if she’s sure about this. She said yeah she’s ready to start drama school now. I said ok if you’re sure thinking she wouldn’t get in. But she got accepted into 3 schools. Her top choice which was Lamda as well as Italia Conti and The University of Manchester. I also got into Italia Conti and am starting in September. She was very excited for me and said she will choose Italia Conti too since I am going there.

I asked her if she’s sure she wants to do this again. She asked me why. And I said the foundation course plus the actual course there means she will be 24 minimum once she graduates. Compared to most who will finish at 21-22. And it’s unlikely she’ll go on at that age to enjoy uni life and go on to work professionally. And maybe she should think for a year about other options.

She got really upset at me saying I just don’t want us to be in the same drama school because I’m jealous I didn’t need to suffer through level 3. Shes now saying she will just go for her top choice Lamda instead and that I gave her the sign she needed to go for it instead of going to Italia Conti to be with me.

I didn’t mean to hurt her feelings but Im just thinking logically that I don’t know if 20 will be good for her. And she was saying how she Hopfully wants to find a boyfriend and I said how most people there won’t be old enough for her and she got upset
