Day 6 update: Trading bot Topstep challenge

Two Topstep Combine accounts running the same bot.

Account 1:

Monthly P/L: $825.82

. May 7: -$276.74

. May 11: +$32.26

. May 12: +$993.80

. May 13: -$181.24

. May 15: +$255.74 (2 trades)

Account 2:

Monthly P/L: $513.12

. May 7: -$278.74

. May 11: +$27.76

. May 12: +$993.80

. May 13: -$181.24

. May 14: +$382.76

. May 15: -$431.22

Honest disclaimer about today: both accounts took the same bot trade and ended in a loss. On account 1 I then took a manual trade myself to try and see how it would play out. That wasn’t the plan and it shouldn’t have happened. From now on I’m letting the bot do its thing without me interfering. I wanted to be upfront about it instead of hiding it.

Costs are not included in these numbers yet. I’ll break those down at the end of the month.

Quick note: this is still the Topstep Combine challenge, not a funded account yet. The P&L you see is simulated. I only start earning real money once I pass the challenge and get funded. The goal right now is to prove the bot can pass.

Trying to make money with a trading bot I built using AI

I’m in my early 20’s with no real daytrading experience. Just a few months of paper trading, nothing more in practice. I watched some YouTube videos to learn the basics of how markets work and to build a strategy concept.

Using AI, I built an automated trading bot that trades NAS100 futures with MNQ (Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100) contracts. I’m currently trying to pass the Topstep Trading Combine to get funded. Topstep allows automated trading, so the bot runs within their rules. The bot trades fully on its own. I just watch.

The strategy is backtested on:

. 17 years of NQ futures data

. recent data from 2024-2026

. Monte Carlo simulations with random samples from the full 17-year dataset

The recent data shows slightly better results than the full 17-year backtest.

I’m running two Topstep Combine accounts at the same time, both with the same bot. My plan is to buy new challenges every month so the bot keeps running in a new cycle. I’ll track all costs openly: challenge fees, monthly account fees, and total P&L. You see the full picture including expenses.

One thing to be clear about. I didn’t ask AI to “come up with a profitable strategy and run it”. I don’t think that will work. The strategy concept came from my own research. AI was the tool to code it, backtest it, and refine it.

Please don’t send me messages asking for the strategy, the code, or details. I need to let the bot run for a longer period before I can say anything meaningful. Just follow along and watch the numbers.

I’ll post an update after every trading day the bot takes a trade. No trade, no post. Just the numbers, honest. Wins and losses both. No strategy details, no tips, no financial advice.

Curious to see where this goes.

Results so far:

Two Topstep Combine accounts running the same bot side by side.

Account 1:

Monthly P/L: $944.34

. May 7: -$278.74

. May 11: +$27.76

. May 12: +$993.80

. May 13: -$181.24

. May 14: +$382.76

Account 2:

Monthly P/L: $568.08

. May 7: -$276.74

. May 11: +$32.26

. May 12: +$993.80

. May 13: -$181.24

Both accounts trade the same setups but show small differences in entry and exit due to execution.
