hey all, extremely nerdy shit incoming:
i'm gonna dive into the game after several months away, and thought i would read up on some of the lore to get myself back into it. reading the in-universe timeline inspired me to craft a detailed backstory for my V, and attempt to make it as lore-accurate as possible. it was a fun creative exercise, thought i would share:
>Valerie Vincent (henceforth referred to as ‘V’) was born on October 12, 2053 in Charter Hill, Night City, the only child of Mrs. █████ Vincent (d. 2073) and Mr. ███ Vincent.
>Both parents were corpos. At the time of her birth, both officially held upper management positions at the Night City office of Petrochem. However, their true purpose at the megacorp was to conduct espionage on behalf of Arasaka, which was banned from operating in the NUSA following the end of the 4th Corporate War in 2025.
>In 2070, which the end of the Unification War and Arasaka’s return to Night City, her father officially transferred to Arasaka, while her mother stayed at Petrochem. Sensing her potential, V received Arasaka-funded post-secondary education in Night City.
>In February 2073, V’s mother passed away after a brief battle with illness, likely caused due to long-term exposure to chemicals as part of her employment at Petrochem. The possibility of intentional poisoning by Petrochem due to the discovery of her mother’s work for Arasaka could also not be ruled out. Arasaka, upon being informed of the illness, refused to pay for treatment, deeming Valerie’s mother expendable. Valerie, unaware of her parents’ previous and ongoing espionage work, never found this out.
>Due to her intelligence and physical prowess, Valerie was groomed by Arasaka to assume a position within the Night City office’s counter-intelligence department. As part of her training, she briefly stayed in Tokyo, and visited Konpeki Plaza. In 2074, hand-picked by Arthur Jenkins, she officially became a counter-intellingence operative for Night City's Arasaka office, gaining a reputation as an effective-yet-temperamental officer. Her tendency to bend established protocols led to her working with mercs, such as Jackie Welles.
>From mid-2076 onwards, we all know what happened. What became of her father following his daughter’s expulsion from the corp is unclear. The most likely possibility is that he too, just like his wife, was deemed expendable.
i think that's a solid enough backstory. what do you guys think?
i'd also love the see ones you created! i can't get enough of the game's universe, so the more of it i experience/read about it, the better.
