My boyfriend and I are not married, so I am not listed as his dependent. Our son is his dependent and is enrolled in DEERS. He wants us to move to his duty station after AIT, but since we are not married, my move would not be covered and would be out of pocket. He did not fully understand how not having me listed as a dependent would affect things like BAH, so we did not get married before he left. Before he shipped out, he realized that being married would be more beneficial. We considered getting married during AIT so I could be added to DEERS and included in his duty station paperwork. However, I have seen information suggesting that getting married during AIT may not update his status in time and could actually mess things up. Does anyone know how this would work and have any recommendations? Thank you!
