I built RevBeacon, a Chrome extension for community buyer signals on product pages.

The idea is simple: before buying something, you can open the extension and see if other shoppers flagged fake reviews, bad sellers, delivery issues, overpriced items, warranty problems, or better alternatives.

It does not collect browsing history and does not crawl pages in the background. It only reads the current product page when you open the popup.

There is also a small companion/pet system: helpful votes earn Signal Points, which can unlock and grow companions. The goal is to make useful warnings feel rewarding without turning product pages into spam.

Chrome Store:

I’m looking for early testers and honest feedback, especially on whether the signal categories and companion rewards make sense.

Looking for feedback: a Chrome extension that lets shoppers warn each other before buying

Hey everyone, I’m building a Chrome extension called RevBeacon.

The idea is simple: when you’re on a product page, you open the extension and see independent buyer signals from other people. People can leave warnings, positive notes, fake review concerns, seller issues, warranty problems, delivery issues, overpriced warnings, or better alternatives.

A few important details:

  • Each user can post one main signal per product, so the page does not get spammed.
  • Other people can mark a signal as helpful.
  • Helpful votes give the author karma, so useful contributors stand out more over time. Reports do not lower karma; they just help moderators find spam or abuse.
  • Users can reply/comment under a signal to add context.
  • People can report abuse/spam, and reported content goes into a moderation dashboard.
  • There is also basic community price history. When any RevBeacon user opens the extension on a supported product page, RevBeacon can save that day’s visible price for the product. Over time, everyone sees the shared price history.
  • It supports anonymous use with a public username, or an email account if someone wants to keep history across computers.

Privacy was a big part of the design:

  • It does not collect browsing history.
  • It does not scrape every page in the background.
  • It only reads the active product page when opened.
  • It uses limited permissions and only supports selected shopping/product domains.

It’s still early, so many products will be empty at first. That cold-start problem is probably the hardest part. I’m looking for feedback on the idea, the UI, and whether shoppers would actually use something like this before buying.

Would love honest feedback. Useful idea, or would you ignore it?
