I recently switched into the Automotive Industry after almost 5 years doing Demolition/Construction work. I wanted to try working in a dealership as I love cars and wanted the opportunity to work with them, maybe even as a mechanic one day, and I got a call back from my local Honda dealership.
I went in for the interview and it sounded pretty straightforward; I would start as shop assistant, helping keep the shop clean and mechanics happy. That was it. I expected low pay, I expected mundane, and that was fine.
I finally started at honda (after giving two weeks at my last job) and immediately got bad feelings. They weren’t prepared for me, hadn’t even gotten me started on training at all, and immediately threw me in the deep end. The first day was fine, I did what I was told and it went well.
The next day however was awful. I was yelled at by my foreman (who is incredibly aware i have 0 idea what i’m doing other than trying my best) for not doing anything in a second building I was told not to worry about. A building with it’s own cleaning crew separate from us.
Then I find out i’m responsible for changing tires too? My workload already doubled, let alone adding tire changing. I even almost got T-boned by a coworker in a work truck who wasn’t paying attention and driving around the lot like a jack-ass, and it was somehow my fault? I even got written up for it, and nobody was willing to give me clarification on what I did wrong so I can avoid that mistake.
I have also found out that my full time position has actually been part time this whole time, seeing as how i’m 3 days in and have been told two days now that I am not needed and am home for the day.
I’m just wondering if you guys would actually bother with continuing to try this place or should I leave? I’m already planning on getting some certificates for other jobs over the weekend.
Furthermore, as i’m done wasting my time, should I even bother giving honda any notice if I do leave? It isn’t going on my resume at any rate and can honestly say I don’t think they deserve the courtesy.
