This isn’t an advocation for buying individual stocks, but surely when even buying VUAG/QQQ over VWRP is equated to vacuous degeneracy, one must pause for reflection.

Furthermore advising scammy thematic ETFs to people with some individual stock concentration in certain sectors, just to ‘downsize’ volatile and tick that ETF box is nonsensical imo.

Finally & coming from a point of curiosity here. The main rebuttal I see from some of the VWRP crowd is that ‘oooh I allocate 10-20% of my portfolio to risky stocks / fun money.’ I am curious to understand if these bogleheads deem all individual stocks as risky investments, thus there could be some low beta names. Or rather, if they unknowingly & unconsciously are happy to erode the VWRP discipline and circa 1.5/2yrs of potential gains with highly volatile, high P/E or even P/S stocks, that COULD tank. Solely because 10-20% of a portfolio doesn’t seem that big.

Last random points: don’t understand the hate in both owning mega-caps outright and within an ETF. Personally, think people underestimate precious metals volatility. Also think when they try to ‘hedge’ some of that 10-20% against global markets, they underestimate how much of for example, Emerging Markets is dependent on the AI Capex which they seek to avoid.

Obviously all of this depends on age, finances, etc. But most people’s VWRP or die attitudes are mad, when real annualised return is roughly ~4.8% since the millennia.
