Started my second ever nuzlocke on Blue (yeah I'm that old) and I went with a theme this time: The Odyssey. Nothing to do with the upcoming movie, just that the game itself is a journey or odyssey. I plan on using greek names or names related to Greek mythology or The Odyssey itself. No major rule changes. I only allow myself to catch the first encounter. If it is a repeat of something I already have, well...that sucks.

I, Odyseus (spelled that way due to character limits in the game), and my rival Eurys pick our pokemon. I pick Squirtle and name him Poseidon (yes, I know they are not friendly in the book but whatever). I catch a Pidgey (Harpy) on Route 1 but miss a Ratata on Route 22 (was hoping for a Nidoran). I get a Caterpie (soon Metapod) in Veridian forest and this is the team I have to go on agains Brock. Poseidon takes out Geodude no problem and Onix is nearly knocked out after one bubble. But I forget about Bide. Poseidon is knocked out in one shot. and I am shocked. I put in Harpy who is able to finish off Onix, but I might as well have lost. What's the Odyssey without Poseidon? I weigh my options. Trudge on, with Harpy and a subpar Metapod or call it. If this had happened later, I think I would have made a different choice. Call me a quitter but I want to have a good time when I play. I turn off the game. Odyseus didn't make it home.

Probably not what you expected. Well...me neither. But I did start the game back up again. Part 2 coming soon.

Attempted my first nuzlocke on the only game I have: Blue. It was a fun and unique experience. Very different from how I played the game as a kid. More challenging and I learned or remembered things I had overlooked or forgotten about. Like, Ghosts are weak to Pyshic types? I didn't remember that and it cost me my Haunter (Phantom) to Sabrina out of the gate.

Started with my favorite, Bulbasaur (Spore) had Spearow (Spear) and Geodude (Balderdash) join early. Pikachu (Chonky, seriously pikachu and raichu had very different designs originally) join up midway through. Slowpoke (Duncan) came on board after Phantom died. Lapras (Perry) joined the team after my rival took out my Kingler (Claw) on my way to Victory Road. That caused a lot of grinding to train a replacement. The Elite Four was easier than I remembered and I probably did a bit too much grinding to get ready.

I lost more than the two along the way (Pidgey, Zubat, Rattata, Sandslash, Diglett). But my team came out the other side of the Elite Four all in tact.

Good fun. Looking forward to doing it again.
