When did you realise better systems mattered more than working longer hours?

I am planning to start a small business, and I have been trying to learn from people who have already been through the early stages.

One thing I have noticed is that many owners eventually stop talking about working harder and start talking about building better systems. Before looking into it, I assumed that if a business became busier, the obvious answer was simply to work longer hours.

The more I read, the more I'm starting to think that approach only works for so long. I am curious what that transition actually looked like for people who have experienced it.

When did you realise better systems mattered more than putting in extra hours? Was there a specific change that made the biggest difference?

We start our careers with the belief that if we work hard enough, we will always be recognised and rewarded.
Did you have a moment that changed your perspective?
