⭐☆☆☆☆ After everything I went through with Dyson, this was the final straw.
I ordered the R3 directly from Dyson on launch day. Dyson accepted my order, charged me, and confirmed a 3–5 business day delivery window. Then I was told the R3 was actually out of stock with no ETA.
Dyson eventually agreed to cancel my order so I could buy the same machine from Best Buy. I did exactly that.
Then, less than eight hours later, Dyson shipped the supposedly unavailable robot I had already canceled.
What followed was weeks of contradictory answers, escalations, executive-office involvement, and an absurd amount of time spent trying to get a straight answer about a $1,199 purchase. Eventually Dyson refunded me, and I decided to give the R3 I purchased from Best Buy a fair chance.
Then came its first cleaning mission.
The R3 left the dock, did essentially nothing, reported the cleaning as completed, and then died with a dead battery right in front of the dock.
I honestly couldn’t make this shit up.
Maybe I received a defective unit. Maybe it was a software issue. But after everything that happened with Dyson’s launch, ordering, inventory, cancellation, fulfillment and customer service, having the robot fail this spectacularly on its first actual cleaning mission was enough for me.
It’s going back.
I bought Dyson because I expected a premium product from a company with a premium reputation. At this point, I’ve lost confidence in both.
