Which EV is actually the safest in India right now?

XEV 9e, BE 6, Harrier EV, Punch EV, Ioniq 5, EV6 and Model Y all bring different safety credentials to the table.

Crash-test ratings are one part of the picture, but ADAS, braking, visibility, build quality and real-world driving performance also matter.

There are quite a few strong contenders in the EV space now, making safety a much more interesting comparison than simply looking at the number of stars.

EV charging in India is getting interesting

The more EVs I see on Indian roads, the more I realise that charging is becoming a bigger part of the conversation.

A few years ago, most of us probably wouldn’t have cared what charging port a car had. Now, if you’re planning to buy an EV or take it on long road trips, it’s actually something you need to know.

CCS2 seems to be becoming pretty common for fast charging, while Type 2 is widely used for regular AC charging.

The charging network is definitely growing, but when you travel between cities, you can still see a big difference in how easy it is to find a compatible charger.

For something as simple as plugging in your car, there’s still quite a bit of figuring out involved.

Which EV made you realise how quickly things are changing?

EVs have changed quite a bit in the last few years. It’s not just about range and charging anymore.

Some of the newer EVs are bringing in things like OTA updates, better driver assistance, connected features, smart infotainment and even AI assistants.

A few of them feel very different from the EVs we had a few years ago.

Which EV in India made you feel that this is where cars are heading next?

Tesla registrations in India are showing a strong July jump

Tesla registrations in India have been relatively steady over the past few months, but July 2026 saw a sharp jump to 115 registrations, compared with 38 in June.

According to the data in the chart, total registrations from September 2025 to July 2026 reached 578 units.

What stands out is the jump from:

  • June 2026: 38
  • July 2026: 115

With Tesla's presence expanding in India, the July spike could signal the beginning of stronger sales momentum, although it remains to be seen whether this growth will continue in the coming months.

Tesla Model Y just picked up two awards at the ABP Network Auto Awards 2026

I didn't expect Tesla to rack up awards this quickly in India, but the Model Y just won Luxury EV of the Year and Lifestyle Car of the Year at the 4th ABP Network Auto Awards 2026.

Considering Tesla only recently entered the Indian market, that's a pretty strong start.

Personally, I think the Model Y gets a lot right—software, efficiency, charging ecosystem, and the overall ownership experience. But there are also some strong competitors in the premium EV space now.
